mfb64 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Hi i have a 2007 2.0 hdi c5 it has done 48000 miles the clutch bearing has started to make a noise when the pedal is pressed no clutch slip etc yet. What i am trying to find out is wether it is neccessary to change the dmf as a matter of course when the clutch is changed, the local main dealer says probably wont be required [£500 to change clutch] independant specialists are unsure some say yes some no prices from £400 for clutch to £850 for clutch and dmf .What i am worried about is agreeing to £400 for clutch and getting a much bigger bill when the car is mended,.Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated thanks. paul.h Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Clutch bearing noises can last years so depending on how bad it is you may be able to live with it - see what other members think. Or maybe just the bearing needs replacing - however, the amount of work/labour cost is probably the same as for a clutch replacement. With the clutch out the dmf should be checked to see if it needs replacing and you could always have a solid flywheel/clutch kit fitted which may be cheaper depending where you get it but is about £420 on eurocarparts vs £430 for a clutch and dmf vs £170 for just the clutch (dmf £264) but no price for just the bearing. So looks as if there is about £250 labour cost. Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 the only way youl know is when you take the clutch out. Budget for the most expensive then things can only get better if you dont need it Quote
