spiritof69 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Hello members, I'm Trev a new member with a C5 heater problem. Having read old posts on this problem I believe my heater restrictor in the drivers foot well is the fault as my fan has packed up and when I start the car the fan on the display is fully black, however after a few seconds the fan display clears as if the heater is in off mode. I have no blower at all. I have removed the resistor and have ordered 1 off eBay. However unlike in other posts my heater is not blowing on full power with the resistor removed. Do I need to set it to blow on full until my new one arrives or is this a sign that the resistor was not the problem? Also when the new unit arrives is it just a matter of plugging it back in or does it involve any soldering? Any help would be much appreciated as I am trying to solve the heater problem myself because of a severe lack of funds for a garage repair. Cheers in advance Quote
paul.h Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Welcome to the forum. Hopefully this is fixed by now and it was a case of plugging in the new part. If not, what year/model/engine/does it have air con/do you have the part number ? Quote
spiritof69 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Hiya cheers for the reply. I ordered the same part number expecting delivery today so will post if it solves the problem. It's a 52 plate 2 litre hdi. Makes u appreciate ya car heater when u ain't got 1 ! Quote
paul.h Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 The Haynes manual says it is just a removal (2 screws and electrical connector) and refit of the part. Quote
spiritof69 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Great cheers hopefully I'll be full of hot air later then Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 if you have manual heating and the resistor goes the heater will blow on no 4 only.if you have the dual climate (all electric) the blower wont work at all and the fan display will come on then go blank Quote
spiritof69 Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 No delivery Monday so hopefully today Quote
spiritof69 Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Must have dual then cos my display shows as if on full then goes blank after a few seconds. Cheers for that it's a relief really cos when it didn't blow with resistor removed I was thinking maybe it was the heater motor or some other more expensive problem. Quote
tampenny Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 some quick advice please,i have the same no air blowing, took the motor out and it was very stiff to turn so smothered it with wd40,put 12v to it from an ac-dc source and now turns a lot better, put it back on the car and it wouldn't turn even though there was 12vcoming through the connector, removed resistor pack which took out the 12v supply to connector,so guessing resistor pack is shot, now not sure if i should get the old one repaired or buy a new one?and does anyone have experience of buying one from ebay ?most of the forums I have read are quoting about £50,£19.99 on ebay !!!it is too cold to be messing about buying junk, cheers guys. paul.h Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 If the motor is stiff to turn then probably it will need replacing. I have read on here of people replacing the resistor pack and then the fan would work for a while but the resistor would not last long again. In the end replacing the fan as well as the resistor pack was needed.
