delart Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Hi bit of a question but which is the stronger engine? I seem to think it is the 110 hp 2 litre. Has anybody remapped either for economy ? Quote
C 5 Estate Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I don't have any relevant information that would help, but, since buying my 2006 2000cc VTR have wondered if reducing the BHP would bring the torque lower down the rev band with an increase in economy and possible extending of engine life so will keep an eye on this thread. paul.h Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Remapping does not seem to appear much on the forum and in the future it may cause a car to fail the MOT since there are moves to check the car is standard by plugging in to the cars EOBD plug. The aim is to check the car still meets the emission standards. So if you do remap the car make sure you are able to put it back to standard by keeping a copy of the ecu software or consider a plug in device that can be easily removed. I have moved your topic in to one of the subforums since outside of one it will not show after a few days and will be difficult to find. Quote
qman3428 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I have the 138bhp (x7) C5 which has been remapped for performance taking it to 170bhp. Citroen now do the sane engine but tuned to 160BHP so I was not over ambitious. It has made no difference to the economy, probably because I use it more enthusiastically. The difference is truely noticable and well worth doing. As for the MOT test center ever being able to check the maps I very much doubt it as the would need to be able to access every variation for every manufacturer and the costs would be prohibitive. They would also need to know what they are looking for in that they have an original map for comparison. If they did they could simply swap it back to original, for a fee of course. I have previously used the plug in device on both a C3 and on a Toyota Avensis and can say they work very well, however every time you get an engine management light the plug in device gets the blame, even if it is not responsible. delart Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Hi can anybody recommend a plug in device,I have read that they do some with a few maps so you can switch between economy/power etc? Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 well paul is right and given time it will be part of the mot. The fap filter and cat are now a visual check for the mot. Soon when a new car is put on the road a copy of the ecu software will be stored a dvla along with the colour and chassis number. then come mot time the car will be plugged in via the obd port and a dvla database will check the software.
