Hi I have a C5 2.0 110 HP with high mileage and I have seen a 2.2 version I am interested in what's the pro,s and con,s? There are 136 HP more expensive to tax, thirstier are they both DMF? So which is the best HDI?

For mark 1 C5s (to mid 2004), the 2.2 hdi will use about 10% more fuel but it also has an exhaust particulate filter that needs replacing/cleaning and the eolys fluid topping up at about 70k miles. Otherwise probably no noticeable difference.

If you're handy with the spanners, it's time consuming but fairly easy.   You need sufficient room to get underneath and then have the car well supported with additional support other than the raised suspension.    Once the filter box has been removed, it can then be given a soak in an alkaline solution followed by flushing with a hose.

In the first and second generation C5s, the single turbo 2.2 HDi was a quieter and smoother running engine than 2.0 HDi. I had a late 2004 2.2 HDi SX Auto Estate and loved it. No experience with the twin turbo version.

The 2.0 HDi in the current C5s is quieter and smoother again, except at full throttle when it can be very vocal.
