akyrillou3125 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Hi all I'm new to the site but have a question already. In january i bought a 55 plate citroen c5 1.8i 16v petrol design estate, I have coveted 13000 miles in it and have had to top up the oil 3 times totaling about 800-900 ml is this normal? I have no signs of leakage no mayonnaise and I don't kick out loads of smoke from the exhaust I've tag on some pages that 100ml every 1000 miles is considered within tollerence but would rather ask you guys what you think. The car is used as a taxi so is always running any advice from you is much appreciated. Quote
paul.h Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Welcome to the forum. 900 ml in 13000 miles is negligible oil use and the dipstick will be about 1500 ml from min to max. So if you did not top the level up between services it would probably be ok if filled to the max level each time. Years ago 1 pint (about 500 ml) in 300 miles seemed normal before worrying about replacing valve guide seals and would have to be worse before thinking of replacing piston rings. Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Does the car give out a puff of white smoke when you start it up on a morning Quote
