odyboody Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi everyone,Just bought a 2008 C5 Exclusive.Have noticed what can best be described as a rattle from the right rear. It disappears if the breaks are pressed even a little. Is it possible that break pads may be loose or something? Having had a Citroens for years that everybody envied for the comfort but laughed at for styling, I now own a car that work mates just plain envy. Thanks in advance for any help.John Quote
paul.h Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Welcome to the forum. Is your car the new shape C5 or the 2004 to 2008 model ? On the 2004 model and the previous one, the pads can give a clunk noise when first applied and there is a shim available that goes over the top of the pads that will stop this (see the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned post). If it is the new shape C5 (X7 model), possibly the pads need removing, cleaning and refitting with a bit of copper grease on the pad/caliper contact parts. However, since you have an exclusive and if it is the new shape, your handbrake will be electrically operated which may mean the use of diagnostic equipment to calibrate the handbrake on re-installation. The rear brakes look to be the same as on the C4 and I did a write up on cleaning these on the C4 Technical section. Torque settings are the same except the caliper support bracket/pad carrier bolts are 108 Nm according to the RTA manual for the C5. On the C5 with the hydractive suspension, if you need to go under the car always use axle stands since if a height sensor is knocked the suspension could quickly drop to a very low level. Before jacking the car up the suspension should be raised to max height to avoid possible suspension problems - this will be mentioned in the handbook somewhere. Quote
odyboody Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Thanks Paul, :)It is the new shape,The noise is while driving and disappears as soon as the break pedal is pressed even a little.Appears to be only coming from one side. Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Chances are that your car has had a set of non citroen pads put in which dont come with the anti rattle clips. the anti rattle clips can only be got through buying a set of pads of citroen £60 to £70 if i remember correctly Quote
