didgey101 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hi all. Ive just joined as me and my car is in a bit of a pickle. I was driving it on sunday and I got a warning that the tailgate estate window had popped open. Its never opened in the year ive had it as I haven't got round to sorting out the open button yet. Got out and closed it then all ok. Now when I press the key fob to open the car the lights flash but car stays locked. I use the key to get in and it drives ok but I cant open the back doors and the rear windows dont work? I got locked in the car yesterday whilst playing with the buttons and had to phone my wife to come out to the car who used the key to let me out. Ive followed the bsi reset procedure on here but still no joy. The car now seems to lock using the blip key but wont open when I press the blip again just lights flash? Every now and then the blip button does unlock all the doors but only rarely. My kids cant get in the back and im worried its a safety issue if I cant get out again. Any ideas where I start please? Many thanks. ..Tim Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 How is the battery in the plip. Might be worth trying a new one. Quote
didgey101 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Haven't thought of that. .will replace it and post back..thanks Quote
didgey101 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Tried that still same problem...thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 When you did the BSI reset, did you hold the lock button down for 10 seconds? If not try another reset like this:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Quote
didgey101 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Yep thats the exact procedure I followed. Tried it three times and no joy...thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 What year and model are we looking at here? I don't think you've said. Quote
didgey101 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Sorry its a 51 plate c5 hdi estate..many thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Does the rear window in the tailgate open? Ever since the C5 estates came on to the scene, they have all given trouble in the tailgate window department after a few years. When I bought my previous C5 new in 2005, I asked the salesman about the fault and he assured me that it had been sorted. But after only three years, the boot door began to open on its own. I would get out of the car and bang it closed; get back into the driving seat and as I closed my door, the boot and window would both open. Sometimes if I closed my drivers door very carefully, I could manage it without the boot opening. As I never used the window opening facility, and also as I was abroad, I removed the cover from the tailgate and disconnected the solenoid. Once that was done I had no more problem. I never bothered to reconnect it and fix the problem. Somewhere on the 'net there's a full description with photos of the repair procedure. Quote
didgey101 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Many thanks for that. Ive seen the very helpful repair procedure for the rear window solenoid but haven't got round to doing it yet. What you said makes good sense though as all my problems started when the rear window popped open. I work silly hours so wont be able to investigate til Saturday morning but will have a look and let you know..cheers Quote
didgey101 Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Hi. Had a auto electrician out today and the ecu and bsi is toast! Looks like a new car!! Quote
paul.h Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Apart from the locking problem, does the car drive and behave normally - if so it may be worth trying a Citroen dealer diagnostic check before considering a replacement car. You could also check the wiring where it goes between the body and tailgate for any damage. Quote
Boonaldo08 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 BBA Reman refurbish bsi units - i was quoted 125 for mine to be fixed - might be worth a try !!?? Quote
