Kertrats24 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hi I have a citroen C5 tourer 2.0hdi 2009 great car but if I turn the ac on then when it's cool turn it off the windscreen mists up strait away any idea why?? And what to do to sort it Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Are you having to top-up the coolant reservoir? Quote
Kertrats24 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 No it doesn't use any coolant it's had a new condensor and heater matrix last year Quote
Kertrats24 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 When I had the heater matrix replaced I found the passenger footwell soaking so I pulled the carpet up and dryed it I havnt noticed it wet since but I will check Quote
Parkesie Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 If running aircon your blowing cool dry air over the screen when you turn it off your blowing warm moist air over it. When you turn off the aircon redirect the air flow. Also making sure the inside of the screen is as clean as possible will help. Quote
Kertrats24 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 I will try that I have never done that before With my other cars is this normal on the C5? Quote
Parkesie Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Ive had many cars do the same the c5 does it and some times dosnt id imagine it depends on the humidity in the air. As a random mine likes to steam up on a certain stretch of road thats in a dip that floods. Quote
Kertrats24 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Mine seems to do it regardless of Location or humidity or outside temperature? Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 +Why don't you just leave the aircon switched on. I don't think mine has ever been turned off. All I use are the two temperature control switches. Quote
seefive Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Agreed. I never turn mine off. People who turn it off to save a few bob on fuel end up paying a high price with system breakdowns - a/c is intended to be used all year round. Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 People who turn it off to save a few bob on fuel end up paying a high price with system breakdowns Yes! I read this on another forum. Well worth while noting:- A guy at my firm has a BMW 3 series, which he's had for 4 years. He never used the aircon at all saying that it uses extra fuel and its not needed. He recently decided he fancied a change of car and decided to get the BM fully serviced with the record book up to date. He had a fair few potential buyers look over the car, but they all tried the aircon......and found it didn't work. He went to get it regassed as it only costs about £40. Well he had the shock of his life when the aircon specialist he went to told him that the system was knackered and would cost £1000+ to reinstate due to all the seals drying out and letting moisture in, which had in turn knackered the compressor, condenser and most of the other main components. He was told that a proper repair figure could be given once they had the system out of the car for closer inspection. But the last BM they had in was closer to £1500 to reinstate as the owner of that one had done the same and hadn't ran the aircon in years either. The specialist even said the best thing is run the aircon system in auto all the time, after all for the minuscule amount of fuel it uses, its years and years before you use £1000+ worth of fuel running the system in auto. So now he's faced with a dilemma, spend the money and get the aircon fixed, or take the cost off the asking price of the car. Which would leave him with not a lot as the same spec cars as his and year is going for not much more than the repair costs. He even tried trading it in, but the places he's been have noticed the aircon not working and have only offered him a few hundred quid for the car as they would have to get it working to sell on. He's as sick as a parrot because the car he thought he could sell for roughly £2,000-£2,500 is now only worth about £500. So the few quid he's saved in fuel has cost him more. Quote
qman3428 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Mine only mists up when the air setting is on recirculation. Check it is set to draw the air from ouside of the car. Quote
Mike O. Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Call me lazy, but I have never switched the AC off in my previous two C5s and probably never will in my current one.I have never had a slightest problem with it either - AC hates to remain unused for any length of time.Keep it on. Regards, Mike O. Quote
paul.h Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 It will also be worth checking the air con drain to under the car is not blocked so that condensation on the matrix will drain away. Just park the car with the air con on and see if there are damp patches underneath on the ground. To help avoid the air con becoming smelly due to mould build up, I turn off the air con but leave the blower running for the last mile of a trip to dry the matrix. Quote
Kertrats24 Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Some great advice thanks as for not turning it off it stop it misting up that sounds a bit like going to the dr and saying it hurts when you raise your arm and him saying don't lift it then good advice but doesn't really help fix the problem 😉I haven't noticed damp under the car any idea of the location of the drain tube for the matrix Quote
paul.h Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I do not know the exact location but often they come out under one of the front footwells towards the middle of the car. Quote
