mrmungy Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hi Guys/ and Gals (thought I needed to be politically correct  )I'm after some adviceI have a C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive I have what sounds like a belt squeal when I turn the steering wheel into full lock first thing in the morning or when its been sat still for a while. It doesn't seam to happen after the car has been moving for a little while. The garage said it could just be the auxiliary belt, or it could be a pulley or tensioner. They can't seem to pin point it as it doesn't last long enough Has anybody else had this and was it just the belt? ThanksChris Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Not worth mucking around trying to find it just change both of them belt £10 and tensioner £40. But try checking your suspension fluid first as that can do what your describing when it gets low Quote
mrmungy Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 Thank you for your reply. I let the garage have the car overnight and they said it doesn't do it for long enough to be able to diagnose. They suspect the pump which at the top of the engine but until it does it more often they say it's not worth doing anything otherwise I could be wasting money.. Which seems logical I will double check the hydraulic fluid level though. Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 When you check the suspension LDS fluid level, the car should be at the low suspension position and the ignition turned off and the key removed from the car. On early models the LDS fluid level can be seen through the tank and should be above the minimum mark but on later ones it is made from black plastic and needs the filler cap removing to check the level. There will be some pressure in the tank so open the cap slowly to let the air out and maybe have a cloth around it in case a bit of fluid comes out. The fluid level should be just covering the base of the filler neck which extends in to the tank and looks a bit like a strainer. If it is below this then only top up using LDS fluid, about £13 a litre depending on where it is bought. If it needs topping up there may have been some air in the steering (it uses the same LDS fluid supply as the suspension) which is bled out by taking the steering to full lock on opposite sides a few times. mrmungy Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Thanks for the advice Paul. I've not had a chance to check it yet. But will follow your instructions when I do Quote
