grenf23 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Hi wondering if can point me in right direction? As said in title dpf full came up and car cut out. We bought car 2 weeks ago. We just restarted car and not done this since (did take it for a lively drive up and down motorway) - assume this isn't normal! And not sure it should show if has done regen, pressing "check" button comes up with "no faults"Car currently running completely fine and no warning lights on dash.Any help appreciated, thanks. Quote
paul.h Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Welcome to the forum. Is your car the latest shape C5 or the 2004 to 2008 model ? How many miles has it done, in the service book/receipts is there mention of the eolys fluid being topped up or the dpf being replaced or cleaned ? Is the car from a dealer with a warranty - if so it needs mentioning in case it needs any expense to sort the problem ? In your service book it will give the frequency of dpf replacement and our 2007 C5 book gives top up eolys fluid 80k miles and replace dpf 120k miles. Thoughts are the exhaust dpf may be blocked and need replacing/cleaning or possibly the pressure sensor on it may be faulty - to check would need a diagnostic check. If the dpf is blocked, then at high revs the problem is more likely to show up. Quote
grenf23 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 2008 new shape, 39k. Details about dpf in service in 2012. Bought from main dealer with warranty but assume dpf won't be covered!!Only happened once and has been and is currently running fine!!!!At time we were doing 15mph!! Quote
paul.h Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I would expect there to be no problems within 2 weeks of buying the car, so definately mention it to the dealer. Quote
grenf23 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 As is now showing no fault and running completely fine sure dealership at this stage won't want to know.Has anyone had similar problems? and exactly whats car supposed to do when dpf is full/needs to regen, manual is less than useless! Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 dealership should be able to plug the car in and find the code in the dtc history. If it needs a new filter then it wont be cheap and 39k seems a bit low for a dpf filter but without knowing the history of the car its not impossible for it to need one Quote
grenf23 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Thanks for replies. Will try and get codes read and let you know for some more advice if may. Thanks again. Quote
paul.h Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I can not remember anyone saying on here their car cut out when having dpf problems, usually it is something like anti pollution fault messages. So I would make a big thing of this at the dealer to make sure they look at it since it is a safety problem. You will need to contact your dealer service department for it to be looked at, do not bother with the sales people, and if they are as good as my local dealer they will be happy to help you. Just a question on the warning message - did it say dpf or diesel filter since if diesel filter it would be the fuel filter which will have a frequency of replacement possibly every 20 or 40k miles. If the fuel filter did block the fuel pressure could be low after it which may then cause the car to cut out. In Citroen's literature they use FAP for the exhaust particulate filter (dpf), but I do not know what is used in the warning messages. Quote
grenf23 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Lasted up is car still running fine with no warning lights. Been back in touch with dealership and booked in for Tues. Will let know how get on thanks. Quote
grenf23 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Oh dear! Has today cut out saying low oil pressure and eps faultGoing to be an interesting conversation with the dealership Quote
paul.h Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Low oil pressure and cutting out may be a fuse box fault needing a new one - this has been reported before and is noted in the C5 Technical section pinned Common problems post item 33. Quote
grenf23 Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Oh thanks Paul with dpf issue I automatically connected the two faults. Will see what dealership says in morn and thanks again for your input. Quote
grenf23 Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Latest; Had garage on phone this morn (yep it's still there) and as Paul.h predicted they are saying is fuse box fault. Quote
paul.h Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Howiec has just reported the same fault which is to be diagnosed on his car - 2008 2.0 hdi tourer, so must be a very common fault.http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21596-low-engine-oil-pressure-warning/ I have altered the topic title to help when searching. Howiec Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Hi, I too had this problem so I've tried stripping the fuse box out and cleaning it, including all of the connectors. If your going to try this procedure be sure to disconnect the battery and clean it with electrical contact cleaner, NOT WD40 or anything similar! The contact cleaner will evaporate eventually but be sure it is completely dry before reconnecting the fuse box and the battery, leave it over night if needed! There's no guarantee this works but the fault hasn't re-appeared since I did it and its cheaper than a new fuse box. The warnings I had on the dash were depollution fault, eps fault and low engine oil pressure, in succession then the engine cut out. Hope this helps, I will post again if the fault comes back. qman3428 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 The faulty fuse box is a micro crack which occasionally opens up and causes the issues. Citroen are aware of it and did mine under the warranty. Seems to me thay should have done a recall but typical Citroen, wait until the customer complains. Quote
Landmark Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hi Qman,Is this crack allowing water in then? and if so where is the water coming from. (Being also a LandRover owner we're used to leaks :P )Griff Quote
Howiec Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 It has now been three months since trying the cleaning process, as listed above and the fault hasn't returned. It's worth trying if it saves a lot of money Quote
paul.h Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 A link to the same topic started by Howiec http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21596-low-engine-oil-pressure-warning/ Quote
JohnMol Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Hi have same problem on my 2008 2L HDI tourer 34K miles, engine cuts out and engine oil pressure low fault warning. Took it to dealers today and they confirm fault on fuse box. Booked in for replacement next Thursday at an all in cost of £165.The service manager told me that a few early latest models (post 2008) suffered this problem and a new relay is now used, so the problem won`t re occur .If he`s right you won`t hear from me on this topic again....fingers crossed!!!P.S. winter before last it cut out several times at low revs with a fault code something like anti pollution fault. I looked on another site and found a solution from a auto electrician that the battery might be in poor condition quote "battery powers the car electrics the alternator charges the battery"I do low mileage and the car is not always used much so this looks as if it is true because ever since I keep the battery trickle charged and have had no repeat of this problemMany thanks for the help John Quote
