Kertrats24 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Hi replaced my front brake pads today if we disregard knakered locking wheel nuts sized wheel nuts ect all went well the old pads were worn to the sensors it didn't register as a fault because the wires were broken on the car side if the loom😣 that shouldn't be to hard to fix my problem is the bleeding nipple on the drivers side has been snapped off (not by me)I managed to get the new pads fitted ok I bleed all the brakes except the front drivers side if I pump the peddle with the engine off the peddle go's solid start the engine it gos down the brakes still feel a bit soft to me so do I A try to remove the broken nipple and replace B bleed through the brake hose or C leave it and let the new pads bedin . Is there any other way to firm up the brakes other than bleeding or any other thing I should check that may make them soft. Quote
paul.h Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 There is probably nothing wrong unless you have done something to let air in to the calipers or a faulty brake hose is balooning. Is the brake pedal different to before replacing the pads ? What happens with the engine on and if you quickly push the brake pedal - you may find it does not go down as far since the pedal/braking assistance responds to how quickly you are braking (unlike old cars). The new pads will need bedding in over the next few days and then the pedal will seem a bit harder and the brakes will work better. I have found it is best to not brake too hard during this time since the pads seem to bed in better. Also the old pads were probably seized in place due to dust/rust and the new ones will be able to move freely when the pedal is released. At some point you will need to replace the caliper with the broken nipple to allow the brake fluid to be changed - at the 2 yearly fluid change, the nipple could have been broken since 2011 and the fluid in that caliper never changed/bled out, so it may be 5 years old. Parkesie Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Your snapped nipple may come out with a easy out shouldnt even need to mess about trying to drill it. If that fails a new caliper as paul says is the easiest if a more expensive solution. Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Before attempting to open a bleed nipple, I always give them a square-on hammer tap. It seems to loosen any corrosion. Quote
