Got a beep and a warning on the screen today - "danger of particulate filter blockage - see handbook"

Drove in low gear/high revs for a mile or so and it cleared.

The car is only just over a year old, 17k on the clock. This is my first "evil diesel" (still prefer petrol thank you), and i'm a bit concerned I'm getting warnings so soon. My daily commute is 25 miles each way on mainly rural a roads with light traffic, no motorways

Any advice?

car is a 2013 c5 exc saloon manual 2.0/160ps

Thanks

Way to soon for a DPF problem, the low gear high revs probably caused a regeneration so I wouldnt worry about it, just check that you have the right filler cap which contains a magnet. If so carry on and see if there is a repeat of the warning.

You say the warning said "...........see handbook". Was the handbook any help?

As Qman3428 says a regeneration should have taken place. However, if the warning persists a steady run on a dual carriageway or motorway should trigger a regeneration and solve the problem.

If your mark 3 is like the mark1, the magnet is in the diesel tank filler cap and every time you refuel it triggers a squirt of Eolys fluid into the diesel fuel tank.

The mark 1 and 2 fuel tank cap has 2 magnets on opposite sides so it can be fitted either way and still be seen. If 1 magnet is missing (or both) simulated by not fitting the cap, then  our C5 gives a message to say the flap is open.

Not many months ago I vaguely recall another member reporting getting a blockage warning on a newish low mileage car, but off hand I can not remember what resulted. Also a recent one which then followed by low oil pressure and a fuse box problem http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21517-2008-c5-20-hdi-cut-out-dpf-full-low-oil-pressure/

I would be tempted to mention it to the dealer.

Thanks for the replies

The handbook confirmed I had done the right thing - driving at constant speed to clear the warning.

I can't see any magnets on the filler cap, and I'm struggling to understand how that would work anyway.

Strange...

maybe the mk 3 has another way of dispensing the fluid.

On the filler cap, try something steel against it and see if a magnet attracts it. Somewhere around the filler neck will be a switch that works when a magnet is near - at least on the mark 1 and 2 C5.

With a daily comute of just 25 miles on country lanes, Do the engine a favour and take it on a good run half hour on the motorway at about 70ish then give it a good work out round the town getting the revs nice andhigh.

youl be surprised at the difference afterwards
