You may as well make sure the replacement tailgate has the glass on it - this was the case when I replaced the tailgate on our 2003 C3 with one from a scrapyard. From memory the glass is bonded on so would need to be removed similar to a windscreen and if you need to pay somebody to do this it could easily double the total cost. Our tailgate was only £50 in the right colour complete with all the fittings - important to include the wiper motor since this is riveted on so not so easy to replace. If you buy from such as ebay, it is best to view the tailgate before handing over the cash to check for damage.

Yeah i got a replacement tailgate and all went well til i tried to put the wiper arm on and found its not the same fitment as the old motor which was tapered and this one is a kind of round barrel shape with criss cross engraved into it and now i have to source an arm but don't know what year the doner vehicle was. And as you say i can't swap motors. Breakers yards work on reg numbers so i will end up with an arm for a tapered shaft which i don't want. :(

Thanks for the help and if anyone has an arm let me know please homerv6@aol.com.

ps/ Still struggling with instrument cluster fault and someone says it could be the BSI / Fuse box so hand in pocket time again it seems. Local garage won't entertain citroen or renault problems so its thinking cap time. :)

A look at the parts diagrams shows all the C3s up to the new model in 2009, have the same wiper motor and wiper arm - so possibly the one on the replacement door is from a different car or it has been modified. The motor part no. is 6405J9 and the wiper arm is 6429T8. Maybe you could take a picture of the motor and compare it with different ones on ebay or take it to a Citroen dealer and see if the parts dept recognise it.

However, it may be simpler and cheaper to swap the motors over by drilling out the 3 rivets holding it in place - you will need new rivets part no. 6973C9 (3 needed) listed as blind rivets 7.5 x 21 and a rivet gun. You may find the electrical connector has been modified if the motor is from a different car so that may also need to be swapped. Whilst at the dealer you could ask the service people about the cluster fault but most likely they will say to book it in.

Thanks for that.

Citroen say the tailgate i have purchased is from a diesel hdi c3 and used the non tapered motor. The arm part number is RCA-746 for this motor and the 3 legs on it are slightly larger than the tapered motor but yes it might be possible to drill out the bolts with a diamond drill bit.

Anyhoo theres no need as i purchased an arm RCA-746 elsewhere cried a little at the price { but its better than sobbing uncontrollably at citroens prices } and now all is well :D

Thanks again and yes you were right they said book it in but i am going to try and find an auto electrician first and see if it can be solved before i pay the £60 machine time at main dealer.

The wiper motor rivets are only aluminium so are easy enough to drill out - when I replaced the tailgate I removed the old motor and some other bits to keep as spares.
