homerv6 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Just replaced the instrument cluster and Bsi unit on my c3 and before doing so the mileage was 39,900 +/- a bit. and now it displays 100,000My car goes for the mot soon and i wonder what mileage they will put down? Its going to be bad if they put the 100,000 down as the mileage when its not the correct mileage. Where is the mileage stored? The BSI unit or the instrument cluster? Maybe i can get a unit with a nearer mileage but which one do i go for? The BSI unit or another instrument cluster? Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I believe the mileage is stored in the BSI. There have been other members who have changed the instrument cluster and BSI and they have found the same thing happening. I have seen adverts for "mileage correction" which I've always taken to mean "winding back the speedo. Before changing equipment again, it might be worth your while to look into it. Google "Mileage correction services" Here's one that comes up:-http://www.eurodashservices.co.uk/services_dmc.html Quote
paul.h Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If you are not planning on selling the car again, then the indicated mileage may not be a problem. Keep the receipts for the replacement parts and your service records and old MOTs will support the history. You may also need to tell your insurance company since the car will appear to have exceeded your annual mileage and if you have a claim you could find you would not be insured. There may or not be something in any breakdown services conditions. Is your old bsi repairable rather than trying to source another, if you decide on this solution ? It may have been on the C5 section where I think the mileage is stored on the bsi and also on the instrument cluster, but if either is changed the new combination of bsi/cluster will adopt the higher mileage of the other. I do not know if this would happen with the C3 if you used another bsi so that it then also adopted 100000 miles as indicated by the cluster. Just a comment, has the timing belt been changed yet, not based on the mileage but the years - should be done at 10 years or so many miles if sooner. If not, as a minimum I would remove the belt top cover to check on its condition - the 1.4 petrol only has 2 bolts holding the top cover. Quote
