Sixchannel Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 HiI have just filled the tank after around 545 miles. The "Range" said I still had enough for 180 miles. However I put 57 litres in which means that there were only 14 ltrs in the tank - a Big Ask for 180 miles.Because - the Fill / Mileage comes out at 43 mpg!I did 300 miles Motorway driving at a steady 70-75, 100 miles cross country touring, and the rest as general driving.Does the Team think that 43 overall is Ok under those circumstances? Also, should I not pay too much attention to the figures the Trip Computer shows. Are they prone to error etc?AFAICT, I get nothing like the "book" figures, and being used to my frugal old Xantia, its a bit unnerving to say the least. I expected an average of around 50+cheersian Quote
paul.h Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 The range given is based on the instantaneous mpg being achieved so will vary quite a bit depending on how you are driving. If you dropped your motorway speed down to 65-70 mph you will probably get up to another 5 mpg but your 300 miles would have taken maybe 30 minutes longer (as well as being legal). I have found on our different cars the mpg figures are not too far out. If you reset the trip computer at the start of your trip you would see the effect of the different driving styles - the motorway may not have been too good due to the high speed, cross country may have been good if not too many hills and slowing/speeding up required, and the general I guess is round town which would be a low mpg. Roger W Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Sounds about right to me. On a French 'motorway' at 55 - 65 I can do 50+ mpg. Around Bath, all hills, in the winter, perhaps 38. I found the extra ooomph from the 160 over the old 140 doesn't help! But it's a lot more fun!!And the readout is very dependant on recent mileage. A trip down to the coast the other day showed 164 miles fuel left. On arriving 76 miles later it showed 161. The difference between a couple of days shopping on the hills and a gentle cruise down to Lyme Regis. Isn't technology wonderful! Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 43mpg average is more or less what I get on mine. The theoretical figure on what mileage you can do with your remaining fuel is a 'guesstimate' based on your recent driving style. For instance, if you are driving gently on motorway and down hill, it will be high and updating every few minutes. I find that if I drive between 65 & 70 in 6th gear on a motorway I can achieve a reading of around 65mpg, but it's when the intermediate gears are used with a few accelerations that the average begins to tumble. It's when towing my van that I find the greatest difference between my present car and my previous Mk2. On the Mk2 28mpg was the norm but with the X7 it's never less than 30mpg and if I drop the speed just slightly it rises to 33mpg. Quote
Mike O. Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I am getting just over 37mpg (7.6l/100km) from my 2013 2.0Hdi Auto Exclusive Tourer (163),Measured over 16000km. Quote
Parkesie Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Im averaging 50 mpg in my 08 mk3 138 tourer and thats over 30k of logging fuel and mileage. Quote
j0hn52 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I have the 138bhp 2008 HDI auto saloon. In the summer I was getting an average of 37mpg but now its winter its down to 33mpg on Shell.I get a lot less on supermarket diesel. The best I get is at 70mph on the motorway where it will average 47mpg. FYI, the best tyres for the C5 have to be the General Altimax UHP or SP which have more miles, grip, quieter, more comfortable and much cheaper than the over hyped Michelin Primacy HP EOM's. RE economy mode!!! Started at 2 years, battery died at 6 years. In the year before the battery died it had all sorts of electrical gremlins: mirrors failed to fold; in cruise, accelerating caused particulate filter warning to come on etc. Quote
