I do not do much if any night driving but last night I had to take my sister in law home, I turned the light stalk to the dip lights showed on the dash but there was two on, one on the top of the other, lights seem to be ok so drove her home, about 3 miles, pulled in to her driveway and switched off my lights, said good night then started the car and put on my lights and only one dash light this time but lights still seem to be ok.

I had to drive both ways down a dark lane and it seemed to be no different in both ways.

Any idea what I have done?

PS. I am Winnie's husband, I do not drive much now as I had a spine operation some time back and it has mucked up my left hand a bit but my wife has managed to brake her arm so I am back at the wheel, You have been warned, only joking it just takes me longer to take the hand break off.

I think you may have inadvertently pulled the stalk which turned on main beam as well as the dipped. When you switched off, the main beam 'ON' was automatically cancelled.

I have had a second look at the light stalk, I can turn on the dip lights but next to that on the same stalk is a second twist switch that turns on a second pair of lights.

I will have to investigate more as I was only looking at the reflection in the car in front.

They are probably the front fog lights. Be careful using those when it's not foggy. A stroppy copper will have words with you..... B)

Sadly, its become the Norm now to see lots of cars driving around with fogs on, day or night.

And with headlights way brighter than mine. Maybe the Law has changed or looking the other way, as with mobile phone use.

Seems to be mostly kids saying "look at my (ghastly) pimped ride".

End of daily rant! Lol!

Some cars now use the fog lights to light up either the left or right when turning at low speed, such as our 2011 C4 and our neighbours Discovery. I do not know how this fits in with the law but it is useful to light the kerb but can be confusing to others.
