winnie Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I was sitting in my car with my dog on the back seat when my friend came up to the passenger side, I lowered the window and my dog seeing the friend jumped in the front seat and put his paws on the window as it did the last inch down. After a chat I put the window up but no joy, pressed again but no window.Later I did attempted to take the side panel off but soon gave up.The car is now booked in at my local garage, wish me luck, I have put buy £200 hope that will cover the cost, what do you think.I will let you know....Reg Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Does the window fail to work on both door switches? Quote
paul.h Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 You could also check the list of fuses in the handbook to see there is one for the windows that may have blown. If not, try pulling the glass up whilst using the switch in case it has been pushed down too far. Quote
winnie Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 On both switches I can hear the motor going and the glass has dropped right down, so hoping it will be an easy fix.The car is in my local garage now so fingers crossed.Reg Quote
paul.h Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 The Haynes manual shows the glass is held by a couple of plastic clips at the bottom so maybe these have broken. The Citroen parts diagrams do not show them as a separate part so will be part of the regulator mechanism at about £100. These people on ebay seem to do clips but I could not find one listed against the mark 1 C5, but if you need clips they may be worth a try. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Osco-Trading Apparently on the 2008 on C5s the window cables often rust and snap, so on this link there are repair kits. This company sells the complete regulator for £51, it says for 2004 to 2008 but the Citroen part no. also covers the mark 1 C5. https://www.windowregulatorman.co.uk/window-regulators/citroen/citroen-c5/citroen-c5-window-regulator-without-motor-left-front-door Eurocarparts list them for £48. winnie Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 I have received a phone call from the garage and he tells me it is the regulator and will need a new part, now for the price, for part and labour plus v.a.t. £220, I told him to go ahead but I will not pay any more than the quote, he agreed, so the car will be spending the night there as he can not get the part till Tuesday. In my younger days I would have gone to my local scrap yard and got the part for a fiver but now age and a small disability in my hands hold me back.If it is guaranteed for a X amount of time I think it is money well spent but please god no more bits breaking this year or I will have to cancel my daughters wedding, only joking.RegPS. I will be taking a photo of an old Citroen that may interest you all, it has been to my knowledge in the back garden for 15 + years, rusting away.Just got to work out how to put pictures on.I think the car was called safari, it was big. Sixchannel Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 IIRC the Safari was the estate version of the "flying saucer" Palas from the 60's.How would you ever restore a classic like that?! Quote
winnie Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 How would you ever restore a classic like that?!Easy, just need loads of money. The car I have seen has no back window and on the drivers side there is green mould, the car has not been covered up and is open to all weathers. If ever it stops raining I will take my camera with me and try to put a picture on this site, oh the car is white. Johndouglas Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 try to put a picture on this site, Our own picture upload hasn't been working for some time, so what you'll need do is upload to somewhere like photobucket or flickr, then post the link from that site to this. That way it works well. Quote
paul.h Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 There are 2 Citroen Safaris for sale here. One 1990 CX for about £6k and one 1973 DS for about £15k. I think I would be getting a tarpaulin to keep the rain out if it is worth so much. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/15/safari/ At £220 + vat for your window repair, you must be getting a part from Citroen and about 2 or 3 hours labour. Johndouglas Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/15/safari/Such lovely vehicles!!! Twentyfive years ago you could see hundreds of these Safari Estates on the French roads, all converted to ambulances. Here's one that was for sale in Spain.http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/LasPalmeras2005005.jpg[/url] Quote
winnie Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Garage phoned me at 5pm today, said they had received the wrong part so will not be ready till tomorrow, that will be 3 days to fix a window.I have a sneaky suspicion they have not done anything just fobbing me off.I only picked this garage as it is a Citroen agent and is 10 minuets walk from me.Reg PS. still to wet (raining) to take a photo of old car.RegPPS. hay how did you put that photo on? Johndouglas Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 PPS. hay how did you put that photo on?You need to enrol on Photobucket.com. Once joined you can click on "Upload". You then copy from your own albums to Photobucket where it stays in your library until deleted. Then to publish one of your pictures here, you click on the IMG code to copy and paste the link. It sounds complicated but it can't be because I can do it... ;) Quote
winnie Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 At last I have my car.I phoned them at 1pm to day, they said, part has not arrived yet, I told them if the car is not fixed to day I will be collecting it as you have had it 3 days. They phoned me at 2.30pm and said they have the part and they are working on it.Garage phoned my wife at 3.30 and said, just finishing the window and they will deliver the car to us with £20 off our next MOT.We phoned again at 6pm and said were is our car? There answer was we are just washing it.6.30 the car was delivered.I will not be using them again and most defiantly not taking the offer of a MOT.Reg Quote
