eduardomelnik Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Hello friends! My Citroën C5 2004 is showing an airbag anomaly message. I'm from Brazil so it says it in portuguese, I don't know what is the text in english.Connecting the Lexia, when it's scanning the car's display shows for a brief moment that the problem is with the passanger airbag (the message just blinks when the scan is running), but the fault code that I read in my notebook is P1802 - Fault Permanent fault Driver's level 2 airbag igniter Open circuitI've been reading about airbags, and now I know that there's 2 plugs on each airbag for 2 impact levels. From the message, it seems like there's a problem on the wiring of one of this 2 connectors on the passanger or driver front airbag, is that correct? It seems odd to me that the car shows passanger and the lexia shows driver. I disconnected the plug under the passanger seat with the car running (and now that I know something more about airbags I'm afraid of doing anything with the connectors without the battery unplugged for 10min) to see what happens, and a new fault showed up (P1808 Fault Permanent fault Front RH side airbag igniter open circuit). It disappeared when I reconnected the plug. Also I desabled the passanger airbag with the car key, and the fault that appeared was P106F Fault Permanent fault Passenger's airbag deactivation Not defined. Again, dissapeared. I did that to have more information about the wiring and the messages. So, another day, now with the battery disconnected, I removed the cap behind the steering wheel and unplugged and plugged again the 5 plugs that's there, and I removed the steering wheel airbag to see if there was anything strange with the connectors (but didn't disconect them), doing the same with the passanger side airbag (just visual inspection, without disconnection), and didn't see anything clearly wrong with them.Do you have tips for me? I should look at passanger's or driver's side? Which one of the plugs is the level 2 (there are two collors, blue and green if I remember it correctly)? Should I disconnect the plugs and see what happens with the faults? I think when I disconnect the plug that is in the problematic circuit, there will be no new faults, just the one that's already there, since it's an open circuit fault.Thank you! Quote
paul.h Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Welcome to the forum. Have a look at this topic to see if it helps http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20987-what-is-the-drivers-level-2-airbag/?hl=airbag The Lexia may just be mixing up the left and right sides depending on if the car is left or right hand drive. eduardomelnik Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 paul.h, thank you for your reply!yes, I've read this topic before, and it in fact helped me to understand a bit of the problem, but I still could't solve it.I think I will try to unplug the connectors from driver's and/of passanger's side airbag. Yesterday I pulled them a little but I was afraid of dammaging. now I saw a video of someone taking off the driver's side so I know more precisely how it's done (the passanger side it something different, but I will look with more attention). paul.h Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I thought that sifaan probably needed a new driver's air bag but he has not been on the forum for a long time so I do not know if he has fixed his car. If you put the car message on here in Portuguese then a translation can be made or you may be able to change the language on your car through the radio menu. Quote
eduardomelnik Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Nice tip to change my car's language! It's done. Now if I have some new message It will be easier to google it.I disconnected the plugs. Turns out that lexia was correct. When I disconnected the driver's airbag green plug, no new messages arrived. So I reconnected it and disconnected the driver's blue plug and the passenger green plug, and turned on the vehicle and lexia again, then it showed up with two new permanent faults: driver's level 1 open circuit and passenger's level 2 open circuit.Well, it's a discontinuity on the circuit that goes to the green plug on my driver's airbag. That's nothing wrong with the plug, so I have to learn where's the entire circuit to see if I'm able to find something. I'm downloading citroen service box to see if there is the wiring diagram of this circuit. eduardomelnik Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 Three multiplugs?I already removed this plastic piece and checked the connection, but I've only seen 1 plug there if I remember that right. There are three? When I opened that one, a new fault appeared. The wiring from the driver's airbag goes from the steering wheel all the way through under the passanger seat then goes back to reach the ECU behind the steering wheel?I was thinking that wiring under passanger seat was related to the side airbags, since they are at the seats, am I wrong? My 2004 C5 has two front, two side and two curtain airbags. The curtain airbags has to go to the ECU too and they should go through downside or upside the front doors, but again maybe I'm missing some of the system logics.Thank you! lift up pass front carpet and remove white piece of polystirene theres 3 multiplugs behind it. clean and check these. pass feet are always squashing them Quote
