MadStu Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) Hi all, I have a Citroën C5 2001 3L Exclusiv I haven't used it for a couple of weeks and when I tried the remote key didn't work. So unlocked it with metal key and alarm went off etc. Anyway, then I couldn't start the car, it was coming up with some security type warning in the box, then after a few tries it's gone into energy saving mode. So I took battery out and charged it up, put back in and followed bsi reset procedure but still only comes up with energy saving mode and engine turns over but won't start. I only have 1 key. Is there anything I can do? Thanks :)Stu Edited October 25, 2014 by MadStu Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 When you did the BSI reset did you hold the lock button down for a while? Quote
MadStu Posted October 25, 2014 Author Posted October 25, 2014 Hi, yes I did but it didn't make a difference. Tried it also without holding it down as stated in the "pinned" bsi reset topic in this forum. Cheers Quote
paul.h Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 The economy mode will go once the engine is running and is just a Citroen thing that stops some electrical things working such as the radio to prevent the battery being flattened, so no need to worry about this. It sounds as if the remote key may need a new battery for the remote part to work or for it to be re-initialised as covered in the handbook following its battery replacement. However, it also sounds as if the key immobiliser chip is not being recognised - this could be a fault with the chip, the aerial transponder that is located around the igntion switch or some other part of the immobiliser system. A transponder is about £5 but ideally the car needs a Citroen dealer diagnostic check to find out what is wrong. There is a current C4 topic of a car not starting that may seem to be similar but the owner has not used a Citroen dealer for any checks, has tried a new transponder and also second hand key/ecu but it is still not sorted. From the lessons being learnt there, I would try a new remote battery, re-initialise it in the ignition and if it still does not work then use a Citroen dealer to find the fault. It may be nothing to do with the immobiliser system though and could be something such as a fuel pump or crankshaft position sensor or ignition coil. Quote
MadStu Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 Thanks Paul, I've tried reinitialising the key using instructions provided but with no luck. Where would I buy a transponder from? The car isn't moving anywhere obviously so can't take it to a dealer without paying someone, so I'll try the £5 replacement transponder first. Cheers Stu Quote
MadStu Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Is it possible to get a non remote key cut with transponder (I have the ignition key number). Was thinking of getting this just to be sure it's nothing to do with the key and it's little circuit board and battery being damaged. Edited October 26, 2014 by MadStu Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Where would I buy a transponder from? The transponder in my Saxo has occasionally played up over the years, but eventually it became a non-starter. A Citroen dealer ordered me one which cost around a tenner. It took less than an hour to swop over. Quote
paul.h Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 For a new key with the built in immobiliser chip you would need to go to the Citroen dealer or maybe somebody on the internet who could provide one if you give them your car details. A dealer normally can get parts in 24 hours but a new key would take longer since it would need to be correct for your locks/immobiliser. Quote
madmadmax Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 stu where are you as i can pop round if you are local to me and plug it in to my lexia if you get a new transponder chip it will need coading so you should try recoading you current one first the reacoding needs lexia and your imobiliser key code that is a credit card sized plactic card should be with your documents if you have it other wise you can get it from the deler or there is a site on line that can do them from the vin if you pop the key apart there will be a small black box in one corner you get the numbers from that and go to ebay or just google and you will fined or you could go to the dealer the circuit board is all to do with the central locking not the imoblizer Quote
MadStu Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Thanks for the advice everyone. madmadmax I live on the south coast in Seaford. Cheers :) Quote
