tampenny Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Hello good Citroen people,I have just got my first Citroen having been a Pug person for many years,it's an 04 plate C5 automatic deisel estate, having just successfully taken your advice with one problem here's another !!!!there is no sound coming from the audio unit, cd changer or radio, although that annoying traffic master woman still manages to get through,in fact the source button won't even let me switch to radio mode !!!so have six cd's full of wonderful music which I cannot hear, tried looking for the relevant fuse, F20, but it doesn't appear to be there, have all the other fuse numbers but not this one,am i cursed ?? should i have gotten a 407 instead ??thanking you in advance, again !!! paul.h Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 The fuse box to check for F20 (10 amp) is the one inside the glove box behind the small pull out panel at the left side. A picture in the RTA C5 manual shows fuses F13 to F25 are the front bottom row, number increasing from left to right. If the radio lights up though I would think the fuse is ok. Next thing would be to pull the radio out to see if the connectors at the back are in place. To remove the radio, remove the covers at each end and undo the screws holding it in place. If the radio has been a replacement from a diferent car it would need coding to your car before it would work. Quote
tampenny Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 cheers guys,i'm not sure if it's mk1 or 2,how can i tell the difference please ?? there is definitely no F20 fuse,it is different to what the hand book saysas i have a F29 and F30but not a F20 or F36i think it is the original unit as it was workingfine up until two days ago, will attempt to get it out and have a look, thanks, Quote
tampenny Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Gentlemen another winner !!!thank you very much, took the unit out, unplugged everything, put it back together and boom !!!aural pleasure for all,do now have a message come up saying'Medical advice call failing. Please consult your dealer'hopefully some diagnostics will sort that out,two out of two, right if you are willing and able lets get this heated seat problem sorted, thank you once again. Quote
paul.h Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 It is good these problems are not costing anything to fix other than a bit of time. If the previous owner had known they may not have sold the car. The mark 1 C5 was from 2001 to 2004, the mark 2 from 2004 to 2008 and is a face lift on the previous version with different headlights and grill being obvious external differences and the hatchback having lights partly in the boot lid. The mark 3 is the completely new version from 2008. Quote
tampenny Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Hi Paul, mine is a MK1,you are right about these problems being easily and more importantly free fixes, plus by interacting you get to know a bit about the car,for example when i was repairing the wires for the rear wiper i noticed the third brake light was full of water, surely not a good situation in anyone's book, i can't for the life of me work out how to access it but i'm sureMr Manuel Haynes will put me right !!! while i have your attention can i run a few things by you please ??i'm getting Airbag fault, depollution system fault and something like EPS/PBA system faultcoming up on the display, are these the kind of thing that a Lexia 3 diagnostics can sort out please ?? Also the electric door mirror on drivers side insists on doing a 180 deg turn instead of a 90 deg whencoming out of parking mode, this will be the next job once the heated seat thing is done, just thought i would ask, hope you don't mind, i genuinely appreciate all the help you have given meand if you ever need advice on say...i don't know, the Wombles or Quantum Physicsi will be happy to return the favour. Best wishes,Mark. Quote
paul.h Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I had the estate high level brake light full of water, removed it and tried to remove the red lens so I could seal it. However, the lens broke up and I had to get a new light (about £60) which I sealed with black silicone before fitting. There is also a design fault with some cars where this light glows faintly until the car bsi shuts down - the fix is to solder in a resistor across its terminals but the space to do this is small so I have not bothered. To remove the light the spoiler has to be removed first, but follow Haynes and put a cloth over the back of the roof to avoid scratches. There may be some notes on this in the Common Problems pinned post. The diagnostic check should tell you what is faulty but for the air bag one you could look for a loose connector under a seat and try the child seat passenger air bag switch. The depollution system fault could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions. If your car is the 2.2 hdi, have a look at the gearbox end of the cylinder head for the swirl flap actuator - it has a plastic ball joint that breaks and a new part ( called a diaphragm) is about £20 and you only need to swap the plastic socket part if the rest of it works. For the door mirror, try manually moving it and then using the door switch to see if it positions it properly - on our C4 something like this happened when we got it back after the MOT and I suspect it may have been knocked but this sorted it (there was a grinding noise whilst doing it but nothing broke off). tampenny Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Paul, thank you very much for the info about service Citroen.com,I've yet to fully get my head around it but it looks like a wonderfulsource of information, I have an issue that is slightly baffling meand wondered if I could call upon you again ??had some diagnostics done on the car and the airbag fault cameup as drivers side airbag squib, I contact my local dealer who wasfirstly confused by the terminology and couldn't find anything onthe system, I guess they use the service Citroen.com as I cannot findanything either, had little joy from Haynes manual, Google or Ebay for a C5 so wonderedif you have any experience of such a thing please ??I still live in hope that it is in fat something wrong under the seat, ever the optimist !!!!also have you heard of a fault code C1390 - engine torque regulation ??the guy that did the diagnostics had never heard of this which worries me,what kind of issue is this if a mechanic doesn't know about it ? I fully appreciate that asking you is cheating and not really in the spirit ofthe forum but being new and inexperienced is my only defense and I'm sureif you can't help me you give it to me straight,I have plenty to be doing for now, would love a rain free day so I can crack on with it,cheers again,Mark. paul.h Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Was the air bag warning light on before the diagnostics ? There is some info in this topic and the one attached on it which may be of use http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21959-airbag-fault-drivers-level-2-airbag-igniter-open-circuit/ If the mechanic was not a Citroen one and using Citroen diagnostic equipment, they may not have the Citroen definition of the code and its meaning. When having a diagnostic check it may be sometimes better to use Citroen or a Citroen specialist if there is anything other than the engine management light on. A google search on C1390 came up with this on Honest John for a C5 and a suggestion to check the steering angle sensor or its calibration: Can anybody tell me please what fault C1390 & C1391 ,means on a citroen c5,turbo diesel auto 2.1 ltr Thanks Joe Sat 24 Dec 2011 14:36 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/images/forums/arrow_l.gifhttp://www.honestjohn.co.uk/images/forums/arrow_u.gifhttp://www.honestjohn.co.uk/images/forums/arrow_d.gif Citroen c5 TURBO DIESEL /AUTO - fault light C1390 - injection doc C1390 Lateral G sensor active check C1391 INCOMP.learn neutral (Yawrate) check steering angle sensor for faults and calibration.
