Was I dreaming this.

Many moons ago I had a small Citroen diesel enging when starting it I had to wait till a lamp went out then after starting had to wait again for it to rise.

The newer diesels do not need the glow plugs as much as before, so unless the weather gets cold you are unlikely to notice the glow plug light on your C5, and then it will not be on for long.

Many moons ago

Go back a few more moons and you'll get to my first diesel engine which didn't have glowplugs. Instead it had a push button which opened a valve to allow diesel oil to drop onto an electric coil which was energized by the same button. The oil dropping onto the heated coil caught fire and after a minute you turned the starter. The hot fumes were sucked into the engine and hopefully it started. Once started, it was ok for the rest of the day.
