winnie Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 My windscreen freezes up in side as I leave my car out side at night, said this will be no problem as I'm retired now and don't need to go anywhere to early, so what happens, 3 mornings I had to go out at 7am.Do all cars freeze up in side or is it just my one, yes I have a cover but forget to put it on.Possible reasons for it is the garage valeted it with a hose pipe and left the window open for 4 days in the rain but that was over a month ago. paul.h Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 It is possible the carpets are still wet underneath so until they dry out the windscreen freezing inside may continue. If this is the cause, then it will help if the carpets can be lifted to remove the underlay so it can be dried. Also check if the driver's side footwell gets wet when it rains since this is a problem on the mark 1 C5 where rain can get inside. I would also check the anti freeze level is not dropping due to a leak - if the cabin heater matrix is leaking this will wet the carpets. If you use the air con make sure its drain is not blocked by looking underneath the car for a wet patch below the driver's seat. I would also check in the boot wheel well in case it is raining in. If you find the car is dry inside, it may be the car was a bit steamed up or it was a damp day when last used so as the car cooled down it condensed on the windscreen and then froze. Quote
winnie Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 I am hoping and it looks like condensation on the window, I have wiped the screen with kitchen roll this evening, the weather man says it is going to rain to night so wont freeze.Yet another early start in the morning, if anyone retires don't tell your relatives.I will check my carpets later in the day. Thanks for help.Reggie Quote
grin factor Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 If you have condensation on the inside of the window & the temp drops below freezing you will get frost on the inside of the window. My wifes car stands outside & if the sun has been on it during the day then the temp drops, it also gets condensation on the inside, sadly thats what happens. coastline taxis Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 sometimes its a sign that the drain pipe for the air con unit is blocked and the water cant escape Quote
