Hi,

I've recently inherited a 1994 Xantia 1.8i SX with less than 50,000 miles on the clock and full service history.

The car is a time true warp car having been owned by an elderly relative, garaged all it's life and immaculate apart from 2 surface rust spots about the size of a 50p piece and the front bottom of the rear wheel arches and everything works fine apart from a strange electrical gremlin with the heater fan that at this time of the year is causing problems on wet misty mornings to say the least.

The problem is, the heater fan either works or doesn't, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but what does make it strange is that when it doesn't work, the heated rear screen, (that is on another fuse/power supply), doesn't either.

Has anybody got any ideas what can be the cause of this, with there being no apparent reason for it not to work, it seeming totally random whether it does or not.

If you have a Haynes manual for the car have a look at the wiring diagrams. You may find there is a common earth point for the heater controls/blower/window heater switch that is loose. Often these are located at the sides of the front footwells.

Ah the old xantia heater  problem.  havnt done one of these in years so bare with me as im going back 20 years. the heaters and the back demister were a common problem on the mk and mk2 xantia.s and both have different fixes.

check that yours is a mk 1 please. im a 100% sure it is like but u never know.

Are you able to do easy to slightly hard jobs on your car. or even just willing to have a good try at it as it is fairly straight 4ward to do. it just sound daunting when u 1st read it
