Hi all

I haven't been back here in ages but once again i have another C5.

This is just a quick thing about how we're referring to the models...so u have C5 I II and III < that last model being the last iteration of the facelifted more rounded shape.

I now have the '08 'wedgier' edgier shape but i think i've seen it referred to as X something, the number after it being the year of manufacturer yes, is this what we're doing, so in my case itd be a C5 X8...or does this mysterious X mean something else.

i do have actual questions to pose but i also want to be speaking the same language....

Cheers all

Although we talk about Mark II C5s starting in late 2004, they weren't given that name by Citroen. They were only known as 'face lift' models. In 2007 when Citroen wanted a new C5, they designed several styles which they called Projet 7, and by 2008, the new Mark II was into production.

But it seems whatever Citroen say now, to the man in the street, a MkII is anything from 2004 onwards, and an C5-X7 is a Mark 3.

so the X stands for the redesigned platform for the current C5,

No! The X comes from the Xantia period when the three or four designs for the Xantia was called Projet X1. When Citroen wanted to replace the Xantia the designs for the replacement, the C5, was given the title Projet X4. When the existing C5 was redesigned, it was just a progression for the design office to call the next car Projet X7.

If you use the Citroen parts diagrams these show the model numbers but I try to also include the years since often people say it is a 2008 C5 but then have to ask is it the 2004 to 2008 or 2008 on model.

Some other models are:

2009 on C3 is A51.

2010 on C4 is B7.

C5 2001 to 2004 is X3, 2004 to 2008 is X4, 2008 on is X7 and XW (not sure what XW refers to).

Berlingo is M49, then M59 then B9.
