Hi everyone

I have just bought a 2003 2.0 HDI C5 and want to do a bit of a service on it.

Am I correct in assuming I have a mk1 model?

How do I know if I have a particulate filter or not? It seems this is important to know before changing the oil?

Thank you. :)

Hello & welcome to the forum.

You are correct in assuming that you have a Mark 1 C5, however there is confusion over Mk1s; Mk2s and Mk3s. In 2004 Citroen never called the newer vehicle a Mark 2. Only the "facelift model". So it's better to refer to the car by its build date.

Only on the 2.2 engines was the particle filter fitted from 2001. The 2ltr engines didn't get them until mid-2004.

Engines with particle filters benefit from using a low ash oil.

Great, thanks for the info, I've been googling for ages and couldn't find a clear answer.

So I don't need to be too fussy about the oil, just a good quality 5w/40w.

Does that also mean I don't have an eolys or dpf either? All these new terms are a bit confusing, lol.

Yes - you're right about the oil.   If you had an eolys tank it would be situated close to the n/s rear wheel and the end of the diesel fuel tank.

Ok, so just to un-confuse myself :P  DPF is jut an abbreviation for the Particulate filter? And an Eolys tank is only for the particulate filter? If so then I don't need to worry about any of those as my car won't have them, is that right?

Welcome to the forum, you are in the right place for any advice on your C5 since there are many owners here.

The exhaust diesel particulate filter has a few different names

- DPF(S) - diesel particulate filter (system) - the S since Citroen sometimes add it in their brochures to give DPFS.

- FAP - Citroen sometimes use this French term - Filtre a particules.

- particle filter - in the Citroen Maintenance and Guarantee guide that comes with the car.

- diesel particle filter - Citroen have used this in the handbook with our 2007 C5.
