seefive Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Interesting to see that the mayors of both London and Paris have vowed to ban diesel cars completely in the next few years, and Islington council already impose a £95 parking surcharge for diesel cars using its car parks. France is the most "diesel-centric" country in Europe, so this is quite a surprise A lot of this is aimed at pre-euro6 engines, but that covers the vast majority of diesels currently on the road. Fortunately I'm not heavily invested in diesel, having bought an old C5 hdi recently for not much money. Definitely not a good idea to wade into nearly new cars with offending diesel engines just now Je suis Petrol! Quote
coastline taxis Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 i read something about this las month. just another bloody tax isnt it Quote
paul.h Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Who wants to go to London anyway, never mind drive there. Only drove there once in 1981 and then it took forever to get around. Notice wagons and buses are not mentioned - the shops would be empty without diesel wagons. What about taxis ? Quote
MikeLane Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 ...and what about the 260+ "Boris Buses" fitted with Euro 5 engines? Are they allowed to drive through Islington? Quote
seefive Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Hmm Looks like the market is turning back to petrol (and not before time in my opinion) From Mr Evans in today's Mail on Sunday .. Diesel car values are about to "drop off a cliff" Not surprising, with ever more efficient, smooth petrol engines ,and petrol being cheaper too, plus diesels being hounded out of cities (London is just the start) Quote
seefive Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Looks like things are getting worse for diesels. The sh**storm engulfing VW has a long way to run, and Mercedes recently dodged the question when asked to give assurances that they were not playing the same game. Latest worst case estimate of the cost to VW is a staggering 68billion Euro, enough to bankrupt them for sure. The real question here is - how clean are the engines without dodgy software? I read somewhere that most diesel cars are emitting around 6 times a much lethal pollution as their official measured emissions, which is not acceptable. I guess Governments will ultimately tax diesels off the road, and use that revenue to hasten the switch to petrol electric hybrids? Quote
