Hi, I have a C5 VTR PLUS NAV HDI (2010), wiring breaking up inside the gaiter at the tailgate hinge. I dont want to tape it up I want to have a replacement loom, or at least a competent repair.  Anyone had this problem before?

It seems to be a common problem, particularly the wires for the high level brake light and the washer pipe. There is a pinned topic on Common problems in the C5 Technical section that is worth a look. Another one is leaking steering rack oil seals.

I suspect most people would just connect in a new length of wire, maybe soldering it, rather than a new loom.

There s snapped wire and a few bodged tape repaire that someone else has done, looks like all the wires are on the way out, I'm not a sparky so I'm probably looking at a new loom :( or someone who is willing to do a nice repair ..

You can get a complete tailgate harness for about £90 from a dealer. To fit it though the tailgate will need all the trim removing to get to all the connectors.

the tailgate will need all the trim removing to get to all the connectors.

And probably the headlining too. To splice in a new piece of wire is much the easier option. The plastic trim removes easily from the side of the door and the rear of the headling, once released from the rubber moulding around the opening, will just pull down from its clips.

I used a piece of plastic coated curtain wire to pull the wire through the rubber sleeve.
