gwyn4500 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hi all , as reported I had a power steering leak and the high and low fluid pipes were replaced by our local garage , the day after there was still fluid leaking from the lower engine on to my drive, the car was returned and after some considerable time checking he realised that the fluid bottle had a low and high mark on the side admittedly the marks are almost invisible and positioned to the back of the bottle facing the rear of the engine compartment. I am being informed by the fitter that the bottle has been over filled (BY HIM) and this has damaged the pipe seals ( THROUGH PRESURE ) on full lock to lock the fluid has been pouring out of the top of the bottle leaking on to the floor , the two new pipe seals have been damage this is due to pressure when the steering is used on full lock to lock apparently the fluid bottle is designed for storage and an expansion tank. fortunately the pipes come under the Garage personal warrantee . Johndouglas Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I don't think we know what age your C5 is. Just in case it's an X7, did you know that leaking steering racks is a fairly common problem. paul.h Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 A link to gwyn4500's other post on the steering leak http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22469-new-member-saying-hello-to-all-in-forums/ Please keep in touch as this progresses since this is a new angle on causing steering fluid leaks. It almost sounds unbelievable but from an internet search some people suggest it could cause seal leaks as well as the tank overflowing. However, I do not see how a few cm higher fluid level could increase the pump outlet pressure by more than a few millibar - for this to increase would need the pump inlet pressure to be increased and that is limited by the fluid height plus atmospheric pressure due to the cap vent. According to the French RTA manual for the 2008 on C5 (X7) the pump runs at around 93 bar on the 2.0 hdi, so a few extra millibar would not be noticed. I have moved your topic into a subforum since ones outside of one do not show after a few days and can then be difficult to find. Quote
