03 Relay 1000TD HDI SWB Van

When I start van there's an amber icon on left of dash with a car & padlock which I've never noticed before.

The van starts OK, ticks over and pulls away ok on flat but cuts out if pulling away on incline or above 2000 rpm.

Once going sometimes runs ok, other times cuts out

Sometimes engine management light comes on prior to cutting out.

If I turn ignition off, lock & unlock doors it's starts again.

Anybody any idea of the cause ?

Welcome to the forum.

Since the engine management light has come on there will be stored fault codes which should be read using a code reader. There will also be freeze frame data when the fault occurred that should be read by the code reader. These should give a good indication of what is wrong - without this diagnostic check you would only be guessing. You could find that some code readers may not work on your van since the requirement for EOBD on diesels was not needed until 2004.

Have a look in your handbook for the meaning of the car and padlock symbols, they are not listed in the ones for our cars but could be something like the key fob battery needs replacing. If you are having a diagnostic check at a Citroen dealer they should also be able to check this.

this icon is telling you that the imobiliser is active. youle need lexia diagnostic software to get into the imobiliser. the most common causes are flat key battery or the transpoder ring on the ignition barrel   you can change both of these for under £20 so its worth trying that before paying for anything else
