Hi

I've just joined the forum recently. Im based in Ireland. I've been reading lots of your posts before buying a 2012 160bhp exclusive saloon on 22k miles. Loving it so far. Ran a 406 hdi for nearly 10yrs so was inclined to trust the basic mechanicals. Also hard to move away from the French car comfort.

I'm curious as what I should be looking for in terms  of preventative maintenance and what issues persist in the 2012 model.

Is the steering rack leak still an issue? I saw that some people reckon it might be rust on the input shaft.

Are the Tire monitoring valves still corroding? Our roads aren't salted so we might fair better over here.

How does the DMF and clutch last in this vehicle?

Are people using shorter than recommended oil changes?

I'm 20 mins each way motorway each day so hopefully DPF wont be too much of an issue for a good while

Any pointer are very welcome..

Thanks

Mike

Hello & welcome to the forum. I've been running a 2010 C5 tourer for almost a year and before that a 2005 C5 Exclusive estate. You're right about the leaking steering racks, corroding tyre valves and dodgy fuseboxes, but complaints about them seem to be on the earlier cars from 2008. Certainly my vehicle has been OK on that score, although it did have a replacement DMF/clutch just prior to being sold by a main dealer. The salesman was unable to tell me the reason for the change.

I use the car to tow my caravan so I stick to the 10000 mile or one year oil & filter change routine.

Thanks John

It did seem both on this forum and on some review sites that the 2008/9 cars had the most faults. This didn't seem to be mileage related either as the reviews were old. Makes sense for new model of any car I suppose.. I agree with your oil change intervals. I've found a local independent Citroen guy so will get it to him shortly.

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

My 2009 Exclusive was a nightmare although all sorted under warranty. The steering rack went 18 months after I sold it.

The replacement 62 reg Exclusive Estate has been faultless over 2.5 years. Now debating on replacing it in October if they keep making them for a bit longer!

My 2008 Exclusive is throwing problems at me, hopefully simple fixes and standard maintaince. Yet it's latest one is now reminding me of a 2003 Renault Laguna 1.9Dci I used to own! I used to own a 2001 406 Executive I did 120,000 miles in 2.5yrs and not a problem with it. last one was a 1998 Saab 9-5 I had it 2yrs put 20,000 miles on it. Even drove it to France and Spain twice and no problems.

So I guess it time I had a few.

The 2008 on C5 (X7) was completely new and bears no resemblance to the previous C5 so possibly an excuse for problems on these early cars until they were designed out.
