Mike060280 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Hi my first post so here goesCitroen c5 1.6 hdi 85k 2007I had low oil pressure on dash and noisier than usual top end so things I have done Replaced oil pick up pipe (no change) So I needed to check oil flow things I did I took off turbo return pipe and to my amazement no oil flow so checked feed pipes and banjo bolts all good no blockage and banjo bolt filter clean. Unscrewed oil filter to find no oil in filter housing so just out of interest I ran engine with filter undone expecting loads of oil to come out but again to my amazement not a bloody thing. So my conclusion is my oil pump has gone poof so can anyone tell me is the oil pump a gearbox flywheel clutch out job I can't find any info that anyone has done one themselves Thanks Mike Quote
paul.h Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Welcome to the forum. Whatever you do, do not run the engine without the oil flowing - it will destroy the turbo in no time and then you may need a new engine as well as a turbo and oil pump and it may be cheaper to scrap the car and get another. Even with the oil flowing, the turbos have a reputation for failing early. There is also the risk of the cylinder head parts wearing out and the engine seizing. The Haynes manual for the C5 covers the 1.6 hdi engine. It says the oil pump can be replaced with the engine still in the car, the timing belt and crankshaft pulley need removing, the sump needs removing and the oil pick up pipe, and then the pump can be unbolted. citrophile Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 You may be suffering from the oil pick up in the sump being blocked. The 1.6HDI is notorious for oil issues due to carbon build up which then ends up in the sump. The oil pick up has a mesh strainer which becomes blocked with the carbon particles starving the engine of oil. Happened to my wife's C3 and destroyed her turbo....!! As Paul says, DO NOT run without oil, it will destroy something, turbo could already be damaged and may just be waiting until you drive it under full load to completely let go. Having said that, replacement isn't that difficult as it is on the front of the engine. The 2.0HDI engine has the turbo at the back underneath and is much more difficult to do......I know, I've done one! Most people do more regular oil changes, at least every 6k max for this engine and also, remove the sump and then take out the mesh strainer from the oil pick up. Also, remove any mesh strainer fitted inside the turbo oil feed banjo bolt as that can block up very easily too. Bits floating round in your oil system will get trapped in the oil filter anyway. coastline taxis Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 your wasting your money changing the oil pump as once they start to play up just get rid of them or itl be one thing after another. theres pages and pages on google about the correct oil and service intervals to change the pump correctly youl need new sump (as they distort when removed)pump pick uptiming beltguides and tensionerwater pumpoil pump youl also need to check a host of other things aswell. Heres a link to another page to what you basicly need to dohttp://www.berlingoforum.co.uk/thread-1149.html Quote
