This is a new one. Does the air flow increase or does the fan just sound to increase as you turn your head - just thinking as you turn an ear in the direction of the blower it may sound louder. If the air flow does increase then maybe there is a wiring problem.

Mine does exactly the same. Same year, same model. And yes, the airflow is definitely increased.

I'm currently in the south of France; it's been 37 degrees, and the climate control seems very erratic. Sometimes it blows cool (not cold), other times it does not.

Not good in this heat! I'm hoping that a gas recharge tomorrow will cure the problem.

Welcome to the forum.

At 7 years your car is the same age as our 2004 and 2007 C5s when they needed a regas since the air con was not cooling much. Once refilled they were both ok.

Well the recharge has improved things, but there is still some very strange behaviour:

1. In the Winter the fan doesn't start blowing until you have driven a mile or two. i.e. until the engine has warmed up a bit. This is expected behaviour. However, it's the same now??? i.e the air con does not kick in until I have driven a couple of miles, when it should start as soon as you turn the key.

2. When it's really hot (say above 33 degrees), instead of the fan blowing at full speed continuously until the interior temperature drops, it goes through a constant cycle of speeding up and slowing down again. Very weird!

Oh, and fan speed still increase when you engage reverse gear!

Does anyone have an explanation for these odd goings on?

very strange one this. places to start would be

check and clean all the earths in the engine bay and general check of wiring for any loose mult plug,s

get heater resistor pack checked

get outside temperature sensor checked.

have you got an original stereo in or a aftermarket

Hi. I've noticed this on mine, but it's not the fan speed increasing, but the air distribution changing from external to recirculating. When I pressed the recirculation button so that just the 3 arrows in a circle are showing on their own (without the 'A' in the middle), then put in into reverse, there was no change to the sound (or speed) of the fan. I don't know why it does this, and have just lived with it. Maybe it's a setting that can be changed with a lexia.
