humptyw Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Can anyone advice cheapest way to get my knackered compressor replaced please. It's been working on and off for last year and is now making an awful noise and although I can hear it engage, it doesn't work. Main dealer confirms its had it and quoted between £450 and £ 600 for new compressor plus £ 150 labour. Can't afford this, especially just to keep cool in the summer!! But also don't want to leave it as it is. Have looked at ones being advertised on tinternet for £200. Presume it's a difficult DIY job. Any thoughts and experiences would be greatly welcomed. Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Its a fairly straight forward diy job that most can do only 4 bolts 2 pipes and a multiplug. but you will need to get it regassed. if you look at your compressor and tell me what colour the multiplug is either green or yellow. weve got a few lying around and will do you a good deal on it Quote
humptyw Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks for that. Must admit I'm a bit unsure about doing it myself but will get back to you when I've Sussed it out. I've not worked on the c8 at all yet apart from oil and filter changes between services but have done stuff on other cars so will read up. Is there a Haynes for the c8? Quote
paul.h Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 For a manual the best thing would be to get the Citroen service box from such as ebay. Before removing the old compressor the air con will need the refrigerant removing unless it has leaked out. Legally this would need to be done at an air con place/garage so you would need to pay for this. Then once the compressor has been replaced you will need to go back for it pressure testing/drying/refilling. You might also consider replacing the air con drier. Quote
