paul.h Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Welcome to the forum. Some details of the car are needed. The year, engine size, petrol or diesel and whether automatic or manual gearbox. Quote
brian01 Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 whoops, its a 55 reg 1600cc diesel hdi manual Quote
paul.h Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 At the back of the engine is the egr valve system so it could be one of the seals on this is leaking. If the module that the egr valve sits in needs refitting that is about 3 hours but if just the valve that is about 1 hour. Lower down is the oil level probe. There is also the fuel filter at the back. If the leak is not much it must be tempting to leave it alone and maybe at the next dealer visit or MOT (if you do your own servicing) ask them to have a look whilst on a ramp. Quote

My 2006 Renault Scenic II 1.6 16V is leaking gearbox oil from the Gearbox Breather Pipe on a motorway, but for the short journey and other roads it drives fine. The oil level is correct and I filled the new oil, Castrol GL4 80w90 and nothing has changed. I tried extending the Breather Pipe as per suggestions on other forum, and nothing works. Any help will be appreciated, cant get any solution from the Renault Forums. Quote
paul.h Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 You might as well highjack this topic rather than starting a new one since the original poster has not been back to read the replies. Have you asked your Renault dealer about it ?Is your gearbox a manual or automatic ?Has anyone on the Renault forums reported the same problem ?When you drained the oil out did you measure the quantity to see if there was too much ? Possibilities I can imagine that would cause it to over flow:- there is something wrong with the breather, such as it is in the wrong place/a foam insert is missing/it extends inside the gearbox too far- the gearbox oil level is too high - is the correct level plug being used ? On many Citroens they do not have a level plug and getting the level right involves draining the oil out and then adding the correct amount. Some Citroen engines are at an angle and the apparent level plug should not be used since it would result in a high oil level.- the oil is frothing due to contamination- there is a problem with the gearbox and it is overheating and boiling the oil. Does the gearbox sound noisy such as whining in any gears which could indicate a worn bearing ? Quote
mag Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 it is a manual gearbox, no noise and the first time when I drained the oil it was 1.5L without any particles (clean) and according to the specs, it should be 2.4L. ( I did see it reported on a forum, but there is no feedback. the report was for Clio 1.2) Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 not sure but i think theese boxes have paddles in them to splash the oil around and the slightest bit under or over the correct level causes the trouble your having. try draining and refilling to correct level and use reverse switch to put oil in Quote
mag Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Thanx for the advice, I will check it on week-end. Quote
