djdaz116 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 hi all I have been converted lol...i am now a Citroen owner and have had it for just 2 weeks. On a serious note i am asking for advice on how to check the suspension fluid on my 2008 mk3 C5 2.2. it is working ok but i just would like to check the level for peace of mind. is there a procedure to follow, as in position of the suspension etc. i did start to remove the cap last night, heard some pressure being released so i just re tightened. obviously it is pressurised, but before i do any more i was checking as what is the correct procedure, and what risks is there. i was worried about the suspension not working after i remove the cap, if i don't do something first. it might sound like a obvious question but i would rather check...... thanks guys Darren Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Hello & welcome to the forum. Yes - you're right - there is slight pressure within the LDS tank which will be released when the cap is removed. Providing the fluid hasn't been drained, the tank will re-pressurize itself when the pump begins to work. To check the level put the suspension in the lowest level and stop the engine before removing the cap. Just a reminder - for many years Citroens used LHM in the suspension system however, the C5 uses LDS. The two don't mix! Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 This is Citroen's procedure for checking the level, it uses a diagnostic tool to depressurise/lower the suspension so possibly the height of the car once lowered may be different (possibly on the bump stops) compared to lowering using the car's height button and hence the fluid level may be a bit different. For those of us without diagnostic equipment do as John has said.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1. ToolingDiagnostic tool. 2. Checking and topping up the LDS fluidCAUTION : The LDS fluid must be checked with the engine cold and switched off.Remove the cap from the LDS fluid reservoir.Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle’s diagnostic socket.2.1. LEXIA diagnostic toolCarry out a global test.Start communication with the suspension ECU .Select the menu : Depressurizing the system.Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.2.2. Diagnostic tool DiagboxSuccessively select the following menus, on the diagnostic tool :Customer deliveryCheck of the suspension fluid levelFollow the instructions displayed on the screen.2.3. ContinuedN.B. : The depressurisation operation takes around 3 minutes.Wait for the end of the depressurisation procedure. The level of LDS fluid should be between the minimum mark "a" (first ridge from the bottom in the filler neck strainer) and the maximum mark "b" (second ridge in the filler neck). If necessary add LDS fluid up to the maximum level "b". CAUTION : A container of LDS fluid that has been opened should be resealed and kept in a clean place. A container of LDS fluid should be used up within two weeks of being opened. After this, any LDS fluid that has not been used must be disposed of.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the C5 Technical section there is a pinned topic of Common Problems that is worth looking at, particularly if you have a warranty/the car is from a dealer so any problems can be sorted without cost to yourself. The steering rack fluid leak seems to be quite common. Quote
