Andrewwood Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hi all, Just a quickie, does anyone know if I can transfer and fit my towbar from my C5 02 plate diesel estate 2ltr to my new car a C5 05 plate 2.2ltr 5door hatchback, if so will the bolt holes all line up etc. thanks Andy Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 No! Even the early estate car has a slightly different bar to the facelift models. If you're looking at Witter, the early estate needs a C29 and the facelifted saloon needs a C34. Quote
paul.h Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 When you come to wire up the new car towbar you may find the permanent 12 volt supplies can be taken from the dash fuse box instead of running from the battery. When I did our 2007 estate at the rear left side behind the boot lining there was a trailer connection with a thick beige wire from this fuse box so I cut it off at the connector and used for the caravan 12S supply to the smart relay - in the fuse box it uses fuse G36 (handbook says 30 amp but I use a 20 amp). The G fuses are direct from the battery through maxi fuse 6 (80 amp). From this fuse box I ran another wire to the back of the car under the left sill cover and in to the boot left liner for the permanent 12N 12 volt supply for the lighting by-pass relay. For this supply, at the fuse box I used a spade connector in place of the fuse in the fuse top slot position G40 (our car does not have heated seats) with a short wire to an in-line fuse (15 amp) and then the wire to the back of the car.
