paulstyle74 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hi , the brake pad light came on today with on screen message ' check front brake pads ' I have booked van in to replace pads for 1weeks time , my question is , is that ok time wise I.e is there still enough thickness on pads for a week or is it literally a next day job ????? Thanks in advance. Paul Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 No usually the light comes on before the pads are down to the bare minimum. But also check that the insulation on the wires is not chafed. It sometimes happens then the bare wire earths and shows the light. Quote
paul.h Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 How many miles are you going to do in the week ? Only way to be sure the pads will be ok will be to have a look at them. However, if you have heard the sound of metal grinding when braking, the pads have worn out to the metal backing which is scraping the metal off the discs and they will need replacing, whether or not they have worn to the minimum thickness. Chances are though when the pads are worn out the discs will be worn out and also need replacing. Quote
paulstyle74 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 Thanks for advice , will prob do approx 500miles next week , have not heard/felt any grinding ect , the van has done 73,000k and this will be my 1st set of pads , so I think I've done fairly well !!!! Quote
