alexlintern Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Having some problems with 2001 1.8 petrol C5 ( 6FZ engine code ) Symptoms are: 1. Poor starting (intermittent) A new crank sensor (1920 7W 96 324 005 80) has been fitted when the car was a total non-starter. 2. Poor performance (I would compare this to a prolonged flat-spot; as if there is zero ignition advance) 3. Misfire / backfire sensation on part throttle. All vacuum pipes are checked and ok. Is it possible to try cleaning throttle body and what spray is safe to use (if any)? Thanks guys!!!! Quote
paul.h Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Carburettor cleaner spray is good for cleaning the carbon/oil that can build up around the throttle plate. Spray a bit in and wipe it with a cloth. White spirit/turps on a cloth also works. Is the car servicing up to date, air filter, spark plugs ? You could also check the MAP sensor on the end of the air inlet manifold is not blocked with oil/carbon. There is also a knock sensor to avoid pinking. You have not mentioned the engine management light coming on so it will not be in limp mode. However, if you have a code reader that gives live data you could check the temperature sensor to see if it is correct and hence not giving the worng air/fuel ratio. Quote
Randombloke Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 You can always eliminate the EGR valve by buying a blanking plate and temporarily blanking it off; if the problem is solved then the EGR valve is at fault. About £3 on eBay. Quote
