Heretic102 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Hi guys haven't posted in a while I just had an mot, the tester informed me that there is slight damping on the o/s/r gaitor, firstly it was soaking but then said it was damp, i had no idea what he was talking about. Could someone tell me please, what should I firstly be checking and how would I check the suspension fluid level? There's some controversy whether it should be lowered max and engine running and others that it should be normal driving height engine off. Do both of these provide you with accurate measurement to the level? Perhaps if I first check the level, fill up if needed, then observe to see whether or not it drains then maybe then I can carry out other inspections getting under the car. Cheers guys Quote
paul.h Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I think it will mean the driver's side rear suspension strut rubber gaitor is leaking a bit of suspension fluid out. In practice this means the strut needs replacing since this will be leaking oil into the gaiter. If you bend down and look under the car you should be able to see it quite easily. If you are going to go under the car support it on axle stands. A dealer will charge about 1 hour plus the parts (strut, R clip and some LDS fluid)since it does not take long to replace, so the total will be around £200. The lds level should be checked with the car at the low height setting, then switch off the engine and remove the key. There will be some pressure in the lds tank so open the cap slowly. The fluid level should be just above the bottom of the filler neck strainer. Quote
Heretic102 Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 Thanks for the quick reply Looking underneath the gaitor seems to be slightly damp but not dripping wet as I was told. Checked the lsd fluid and it is just abit above the bottom of the strainer cap thing. Should I be concerned about it for now or perhaps leave it and see how it gets on, I was told that they have the tendency to sweat a little bit in those areas, I just don't want to leave it incase it progresses and becomes more problematic. How hard is the dyi for it? Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 depends if you have hydro 3 or 3 plus. what colour is your lds tank black or whiteish plastic Quote
