Simon.daviesj Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Hi all, new to the site. The heater fan does not work at all on my girlfriends xsara 2002. I have looked this up on the net and suggestions are that it's the two resistors on the fan itself. I have removed the fan, is there any way I can test this? Also, yesterday, my girlfriend had a fright and had to stop the cat suddenly as there was a loud fast clicking noise coming from behind the glove box. I removed the glove box today to descovered it coming from what looks like a servo unit right in the centre of where the glove box was, any suggestions as to what this is? Thanks in advance. Quote
paul.h Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Welcome to the forum. You could possibly try a 12 volt supply direct to the fan motor by-passing the resistor to see if it runs. This would check the motor. You could also see if there is a 12 volt supply to the resistor when trying to run the fan from the car. There will probably be a fuse which should be listed in the handbook. The thing that looks like a servo, if you could post a photo on something similar to photobucket you could link to it on this forum. You could also look at the parts diagrams as a free service on the service.citroen site if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres This topic includes a picture behind the glovebox so you may be able to point out the part http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/22812-heater-fan-blows-constantly/ Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Here's a picture of a 2002 Xsara with the fan motor removed. Maybe you can point out the item you've mentioned. Incidentally, the fan on this car was only working at full speed. The resistor pack was changed and it worked normally for a week then stopped altogether. I fitted a new motor for around 80 quid from ECP. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/P1010883.jpg[/url] Quote

Johndouglas Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 How do I exactly post a picture to this site like you have? First you need to upload your picture to a host site like Photobucket or Flickr. When the photo is in your library, copy the IMG link with the URL then paste it in the reply box on this forum. The "Attach files" facility on this site, for some reason won't work. Quote
Simon.daviesj Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Cheers John, I've posted the picture above and circled the part that I'm on about. Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Sorry I can't help. Maybe somebody will be along later who knows. Quote
paul.h Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Looking at the parts diagrams without knowing which engine or whether you have air conditioning, it looks as if the part is a reduction gear that will control one of the heating system flaps. It will either be to adjust the temperature if you have climate control or more likely to put the air inlet to the outside or to recycle - you could try using the air inlet recycle switch to see if it does anything. If you have air conditioning, the Citroen part no. for a diesel car is 6447ER and if a petrol car 6447CF. Without air conditioning the part for a diesel car is 6447FJ and for a petrol car 6447AQ but all these part nos. should be checked using the car VIN. The noise could be the part is faulty such as its gear teeth are worn or possibly the bit it fits in to could be worn or maybe something is jamming the flap. Here is an example of one of these parts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-406-95-04-AIR-CONDITION-REDUCTION-GEAR-6447CF-/330482277515?hash=item4cf2475c8b Quote

I'm getting this mv reading, surely it should be at least 12v? Quote
Simon.daviesj Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 I have connected I 12v supply direct to the fan and it works on full. If I'm only getting a small mv from the supply, this surely won't be enough, there's something a miss here. I'm sure it needs a 12v supply to the fan and then the control module will regulate the supply when the fan speed is changed. I'm baffled. Quote
Simon.daviesj Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Success! Okay, after much messing about and testing I found the problem. The reason there was no voltage at the connector to the fan was in fact the air con module that slots up the side of the ducting. I had initially replace the fan and replaced the control paneL and still getting the same result. However, the lights on the control panel was always flickering, the air con button didn't light up after pressing it nor the air circulation button. Went to the scrap yard as a last dich attempt to get it working, plugged in the new air con controller module and it all worked as it should, heat, air con, fan speed etc... it was it's little pain in the bum, but very easy to replace. Johndouglas Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Well done. A happy result all round. And thanks for returning to tell us the outcome. Quote
