can you put 255/55/R16 V98 onto the 1.6 16v egs tourer. what I have on there are 255/60/R16 102W XL. I ask this because on tyre web sites it always comes up with the 255/55/R16 V98. But this is not what the manufacurer says should be on there.

I would like to put on either Pirelli P7 blue or Dunlope bluresponse.

any help would be appreciated. peter

The correct tyres for your car will be on the tyre sticker on one of the door pillars.

A C5 sales brochure for 2012 lists the tyres as 215/60 R16 for the VTR on steel wheels, 225/55 R16 or 225/55 R17 for the VTR+ Nav on alloys, 225/55 R17 or 245/45 R18 or 245/40 R19 for the exclusive on alloys. It does not mention the speed or load ratings but these are listed in the parts diagrams as 215/60 R16 95V, 225/55 R17 97W, 245/45 R18 100W, 245/40 R19 98Y and there is also 225/60 R16 98V.

Nowhere is the tyre width 255 or load 102 mentioned. If you have 255 tyres on then possibly you do not have the original standard wheels.

I need a new pair on the front of my 2005 C5 so, as I've always used Michelins, I went to their web-site and they recommended the new CrossClimate (215/55 R16 97V). When I looked to see who fitted the cheapest I saw a symbol which tells me that this tyre is reinforced! Michelin don't appear to make  and unreinforced version of this tyre.

I seem to remember reading on this forum that reinforced tyres shouldn't be used on my vehicle so.....?

Anyway, I'll try asking Michelin and see what they have to say.

FYI - Michelin has replied saying that this is their recommended tyre for my C5 and it has been approved by Citroen.

(Waiting to hear from Citroen UK now.)

If you check the car tyre sticker you should find the recommended tyres are 93W but on the parts diagrams for a reinforced tyre it is 97W. Maybe this new tyre is not available in a W speed rating. Using the originally recommended tyre ratings came up in a previous topic and how an insurer would look on it if there was a claim.

I read in a Caravan Club magazine that winter tyres need to have more tread to work well so should be replaced at 3 mm or more and in some countries this is required. Maybe this would apply to these new tyres.
