humptyw Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Evening all. Airbag light has come on on the dash and on startup I get the above warning and a beep. It started yesterday but warning came up only when taking right hand bends??!! I've googled this and checked connections under seats etc, disconnected and reconnected battery, pulled all seatbelts out full and kicked all the tyres really hard but still warning. I want a more specific diagnosis. Does anyone know if those plug in Bluetooth fault code finder things that require a phone app or PC could help me with this? They have good reviews and are on Amazon and fleabay for about a tenner. If I could narrow the problem to a particular airbag or airbag it would help a lot. Just not sure if diagnosis equipment needs to be more sophisticated? Dealer says diagnosis will START at £50! Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Most code readers only work on engine faults. To diagnose any others you'll need a Lexia session. Quote
humptyw Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 Thanks. I really don't want to take it to the dealers for this one so I'll keep on wiggling wires and cleaning connections for a while. Most of my google research seems to lead to loose connections. I hate electrical problems!!! Quote
paul.h Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 You can also try the passenger seat airbag on/off switch but after that without the diagnostic it could be anything. Some code readers will do air bag faults but are dearer than a Lexia. Examples http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/peugeot_airbag_189379.cfmOn one of the C5 sections there is a pinned topic of members who are able to help with diagnostic checks so you could look to see if one is near you. It may not be a wiring fault but could be a sensor such as a decceleration one and without reading the fault code you will not find out. When the air bag light is on the air bag system may be disabled so drive carefully. Looking through all your previous topics/posts, you have so far not given any details of your car other than C8, what year, engine size, petrol/diesel, trim level is it since this can affect any replies given ? humptyw Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 Thanks that's really helpful . It's a 2 litre HDI 120hp 2008 grey. Quote
humptyw Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Just an update. I took it to local auto electrical wizz who diagnosed drivers airbag igniter fault. Needs replacement unit on steering wheel known as the "stalk"? . This comprises the indicator stalks etc and sits behind he wheel, no aftermarket one made for my car and Citroen want £300 for a new one. I've waited ages for a scrapyard to find one but one has just come up on eBay that might be the one I want. Local citroen dealer won't release part numbers. Does anyone know how I can get the part number so I can make sure I'm getting the right one? Thanks. Quote
paul.h Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 If it is an air bag igniter fault then surely the air bag needs replacing and not the comms 2000 unit with the wiper/lighting stalks, unless it is a problem with the wiring or rotary switch in the comms unit ? There is a long list of part nos. for the comms unit depending on what features the car has but I would send a message to coastline taxis about this since I am sure he has previously said it does not really matter. When the comms unit is replaced the rotary switch needs turning so that 3 triangles line up before fitting it. The steering wheel air bag part nos. are4112HQ up to RPO 111924112LP for RPO 11193 to 11374 except Range Activity4112NR from RPO 11291 for Range Activity Quote
humptyw Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks. Been away. I'm now hoping it's the comms unit as I just paid £320 to Citroen for it. This is not £320 worth if stuff!! Auto electrician was sure this needed replacing but I also wondered about the airbag itself. Guess I'll have to wait and see now! Are these easy to fit myself? Would save £50 fitting fee but I guess I'd struggle if there were any complications. I'll get the man to do it!!! Quote
