OK so yesterday my front wipers and washer jets decided to stop working.

Fuses have been checked and are ok however if someone could explain to me the location of the motor that would be fantastic!

So I'm thinking it could be the motor right up until this morning when my rear wiper went mental!

I kid you not the wiper was off on the stalk but (this has now happened on 2 separate occasions) when I put the car in reverse and lift the clutch the rear wiper started running!!!!

On the stalk the rear wiper and washer jet and the stereo controls all work fine however the front wipers/jets don't.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Could it be the stalk? Should I try that nifty little trick in the other post about disconnecting the comms plug? My car is fruity and I need some help :)

Cheers guys

it quite normal for the rear wash/wipe to operate when engaging reverse a lot of citroens are set up this way so i wouldnt worry to much about that. the washer motor is in the washer tank and to get to it you need to take the front bumper off

I would get a copy of the Haynes manual for the C3, either buying one or looking in a library for one.

The washer pump for the front and rear wipers is shared but it runs in opposite directions. If you can hear it running when trying to wash the front wipers then the washer tank or pump outlet may be blocked and need cleaning or the washer jets may be blocked and need poking out with a pin. To access the washer tank and pump the Haynes manual says to remove the right front wheel and then the wheel arch liner.

To get to the front wiper motor you need to remove the plastic scuttle below the windscreen.

Paul.H thank you.

There is no noise at all from the front wipers or jets trying to run when I turn them on!

The curiosity about the rear wiper is that until the other day it had never happened before!!!!!

The jets are clear but I will have a look at the pump although as the back works I can't see that being a problem!!

Thank you for confirming that the motor is (thankfully) where I thought it was!

The wiring diagram in the Haynes manual shows the washer pump only has 2 wires going to it so if it turns one way but not the other then the pump and its wiring are not going to be the problem. At the engine fuse box the pump uses fuse F14 10 amp (according to Haynes but check your handbook) but then goes to 2 relays to run the pump in opposite directions. These relays will be built in to the fuse box so probably are not replaceable but you could check for damage in the fusebox. It also shows for the engine fuse box the front wiper motor uses fuse F17 30 amp and a relay built in.

When the pump/wiper switches are used you could have a listen for the relays working with the fuse box lid removed - if not then the problem may be the stalk/comms 2000 unit under the steering wheel.
