nig1975 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Hello everyone, i'm hoping to get some advise from you guys, I have a 2009 c5 x7 2.0hdi vtr+nav, its a great car me and my wife love it.Its been fault free for the past couple of years or so but recently I have noticed when driving over bumpy roads, pot holes, speed bumps etc instead of gliding over them like were used too, its seems like it crashing over them especially from the front drivers side wheel its lost its floating feeling from that side It had an M.O.T a couple of months ago with no advisories, the problem was going on before the mot so I assumed if their was something wrong they would of picked it up but nothing. I had the wheels off at the front, jacked it up but couldn't see anything obvious, had new drop links on it last year so defiantly not that, it dosent knock but feels very hard when absorbing the bumps in the road but only on the front right side. I'm on a tight budget so if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Many thanks Nigel. Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Were they good quality drop links? Some cheap versions don't last 5 minutes. Also check the tyre pressure in the front tyre. Maybe it's too high. Quote
ESL57 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Try a bounce test on the sphere on that side. Compare it to the other side. Lemforder are good drop links if any are suspect. Quote
paul.h Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The 2.0 hdi C5 (X7) vtr+ nav has standard shock absorbers and coil springs, the 2.2 hdi and the exclusives have the hydractive suspension. Make sure the coil spring has not broken and lost a coil. Check the shock absorber for leaks and do a bounce test, push down on that corner of the car and let go and it should bounce back up and settle once, any more (or less) and the shock absorber needs replacing. Compare it with the other side. To check it properly it may need disconnecting at the lower end. If it needs replacing the other side should also be done. Quote
nig1975 Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Thanks for the input guys, I will admit the droplinks were not the best ones around, from ebay I believe, I will try the bounce test tomorrow and see how it looks, cant see any leaks from the shocks but will have a closer look and report back.. andrew99 Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Just a follow up on C5 coil spring suspension - my 2008 (58 plate) C5 Tourer (124k miles) just suffered a broken front driver's side coil spring. Symptom - loud grinding noise over every tiny bump in the road. Do not be tempted to drive to garage ! This can wreck your tyre as well. DCB Autos in Yeovil - as usual - did a good job for me at a reasonable price. Replaced drop-link as well. Quote
paul.h Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 We've had front and rear springs fail on a couple of C3s but fortunately the cars were not too old so Citroen paid for them to be replaced. Usually the spring at each side is replaced to get a matched pair. Quote
