I had my friend run the diagnostic test by MaxiSacn MS509 to check the fault of Depollution System  Error for the car c4 1.6hdi 2006. It founds 5 codes which are P0093, P1351, P2408, P0087 and P0238. Somehow the Depollution System  Error gone off after few minutes and he ran the test again and it brought only P2408 which is Fuel Cap Sensor error. does anyone know what is this and do I need to replace anything or this is all causing by the dpf.

An internet search suggests the fuel cap sensor needs replacing. In the fuel filler cap will be 2 magnets that work the sensor switch when the cap is removed and put back again which tells the car to dose the eolys fluid in to the fuel tank. This sensor will be located somewhere near the filler cap inside the car wing

I have been to another garage today and their machine also picked up fuel cap sensor error (Error Code P2408). the guy suggested me to change the diesel fuel filter. from his experienced he thinks diesel fuel filter is bringing this error.

So i have decided to go for servicing and also get the DPF cleaned by them. i'll buy the material from euro car parts..

paul.h could you please check the servicing material that I have selected for my C4 1.6 (110bhp) 2006 car.

1. Engine Oil : TRIPLE QX Engine Oil (5w30 Fully Synthetic (Low Saps C2) Engine Oil 5Ltr)Part No.: 521776051

2. Oil filter: Bosch Oil Filter Part No.: 501545127

3. Diesel Fuel Filter: Crosland Fuel Filter Part No.: 503590158

4. Air Filter: Guttmann Air Filter Part No.: 502545431

5. Engine Flush: STP Engine Flush 450mlPart No.:549771811

I am not going for Total INEO ECS 5w30 as delivery day is not convenient for me.

Please advise me.

Whilst it is being serviced get the mechanic to check the fuel cap sensor, maybe there is a problem with its wiring or the wiring connector needs a clean. He can also check its resistance with a meter - the internet search came up with some values http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/307-38/p1446-p2408-codes-23052/

I can not really comment on the alternative service parts, I have always got mine from the Citroen dealer, finding their prices are not much different to places such as eurocarparts and getting genuine parts they are always the right ones. Also my the dealer is only 1 mile away whereas going elsewhere would involve a 10 mile trip.

Citroen parts are far to expensive. as an example, their diesel fuel filter is around £54 which i can buy just for £18 from eurocarparts shop. all the other parts are also at least time and half more than eurocarparts shop.

anyway, where to buy the fuel filter sensor from and whats the part number. where exactly its located? thanks again paul.

The fuel filler cap sensor might be Citroen part no. 1503CS but you should check this using your VIN. It will be located at the side of the fuel tank filler neck on the inside of the rear wing, accessed from under the car. You could check on ebay for one or your Citroen dealer will provide the correct part against your VIN.

If you check the service life of the citroen fuel filter to that of a cheaper version. the cheaper one wont last as long as the citroen one so budget for buying 2 filters and paying 2 loads of labour as this bio diesel from the pumps is giving fuel filters a hard time at the moment. Check your filler cap is not damaged and is the right one or that the magnet hasnt falling out.  Join the citroen trade club and youl get further discount om them prices normally around 20%

Could you give me the link for citroen trade club. if i search on google it takes me trade team which seems to be for the business owner as the form requires the information for the business name and technician and so on.

Hi Paul.h

I have had my servicing done (changing oil,oil filter, fuel filter, air filter) and after that I took the car to motorway and drove around 90 miles. i even rose the speed to 90mph without any slowing down (which i had problem when depollution system error sign was on the dash few days ago, just 86mph and car went slowed down to stop). even the depollution error message didn't show up (which previously used to shows up without fail if i would go to motor way). so I came back to garage and run test, and P2408 error code was still there.

I thought may be it will be gone if I change the diesel fuel filter. anyway, spoke to citroen and got the right part number which is 1503T2 and price is around £43. I have found it cheaper here though  http://www.eurocarcare.net/fuel-management/ecc1503t2-sensor-fuel-tank-cap.html

could you confirm me if this the right part which bringing this fault code and what happen if i don't change it? your quick reply will be appreciated. thank you.

Looking in the parts diagrams sensor 1503T2 is for cars up to RPO 10732 and if provided by your dealer against your VIN will be the correct part.

If this part is faulty it may not be causing the eolys fluid to be dosed in to the fuel tank and this would result in the dpf becoming blocked - so it might possibly be the cause of your dpf problems.

Have had my fuel cap sensor replaced and checked by the genuine diagnostic tool with professional..no more fault code was found. Oh, the rear passenger side's shock absorber seems to be faulty. I have seen the trace of oil leak and also some rust on it. I got the part today. hopefully tomorrow i will get it replaced. I love the car hence doesn't want to leave with any problem in it and once everything is sorted i will take very good care of it.
