SPUDD114 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Hi, my van -54 plate Relay ran out of diesel tonight on the way home, i have put 10 litres of fuel back into it. And it still won't start. Do i have to bleed it? is there a priming pump? i had a look around and couldn't see anything? any help would be appreciated. many thanks Quote
paul.h Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Welcome to the forum. Depending on the engine size, some Citroens have a hand priming pump near the engine and it needs squeezing 10 to 20 times until it goes hard to fill the diesel filter. If you find the diesel filter, follow the pipes from it to find the pump. Ones without a hand pump need the engine turning over until it starts. If these do not work then possibly running out of fuel has damaged the fuel pump(s) or if you did not run out of fuel, the pump in the tank has failed making you think you ran out. Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 If its a 2 litre hdi sit in the van and put the ignition on and wait 10 seconds then switch ignition off. do this 4 or 5 times and you should hear a gurgling sound. then try and start it. If its a different size engine let us know Quote
paul.h Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 The op has not been on here since soon after posting, so I suspect the van is up and running. Quote
