bangedupcitroen Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Hi i've spent hours trawling the internet I cant find the ATF filler point or check level on my C8. I read its under the airbox which i removed but after trying a couple of bolts which looked like possible candidates lol they wasn't. I don't have a manual or cant find any source other than written descriptions of the job. I've also searched pug 807 as i believe its same gearbox but still no luck. Can anybody help me please i would be very grateful? Edited December 28, 2015 by bangedupcitroen Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 use the reverse light switch to fill in. what type of box is it Quote
paul.h Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Definately be careful undoing bolts on the top. One member removed a torx bolt before finding it was not a filler plug but then the auto box would not work - this could have been on a C4. Also often there is not a level plug but instead the oil is drained out and the correct amount has to be put back in. On auto boxes the oil has to be the correct temperature. For a workshop manual the best one to get is the Citroen service box from such as ebay. These are Citroen's manuals on 3 dvds to install on a pc and include the parts diagrams and wiring diagrams. Simple Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I have the Diesel version and it has the AL4, I think all of them use the same. The filler plug is on top, about 10 centimeters behind the air filter when standing in front of the car, you need to remove the air filter cover to see it, actually you cannot see it easily. If you raise the air filter assembley (after removing the cover) you will see it from the side. Google Al4 gearbox images to get a better picture..The drainage is in the bottom, both Filling and drainage plugs are a square 8mm plug (as far as I remember). Please be careful and do not open the bottom plug before you open the top..Tools needed:1- MOBIL ATF LT 71141, 4 liters (it is rather expensive)2- Square socket 8 mm.3- 5mm or 1/4 inch plastic hose. about 60 cm and preferably transparent.4- Funnel that fits the plastic hose. Please notice:1- The AL4 cannot be refilled completely, only partially, the procedure is called partial refill of AL4 GearBox, because you cannot drain all the oil, some oil will stay in the torque converter.2- The full capacity is 6 liters and you will be able to change 3.2 to 3.6 Liters.3- The oil needed is MOBIL ATF LT 71141, DO NOT use any thing else..4- The oil change operation can be performed between 59 - 69 Degrees Celsius. This needs a Lexia device to tell you the oil temperature. The Oil Change procedure:1- Drive the car and ensure the oil temperature is between 59 and 69 degrees.2- Park the car and ensure it is level, If the temperature is higher than 69, wait until it cools and if it is cooler keep the engine running and change gears with foot on the brake and hand brake on.3- With the temperature around 64, and only after you loosen the upper filling plug (you don't want to end up with an empty gear that you cannot fill) Gear in P position:a- Open the drainage plug using a square 8 mm plug. Remember the oil is on the HOT sideb- Insert a 6 mm or 7 mm (I cannot remember) Hex key and unscrew and withdraw the plastic level piece.c- Forget changing the Oil Filter or Pump, it is a big job.d- Once all the oil is out in the pan, quantify it (about 3.6 liter), do what ever you need to get as much oil out as possible.e- Reinsert the plastic level indicator (tighten well, but not over tighten) and replace the drainage plug but tighten loosely (you will know why in a minute).f- Open the Filler plug and fit the plastic hose in the filling hole (it should be a tight fit.g- Fit the funnel to the other end of the hose.h- fill in the new oil, 0.5 liter more that what you took out.i- Start the car and go through the gears slowly.j- When the oil temperature reaches between 59 and 69, and while the engine is running and the gear is in P position. Place a new drain container under the drainage point and reopen the drainage plug.k- The excess oil (0.5 liter) will drain down. When oil stops dripping or when dripping is very light, you can close the plug tight.l- You can close the upper filler plug. You are done .. the whole thing takes about one and half hours, mostly preparation and temperature control.* Please notice that when you add the new oil, temperature will drop down, you need to raise it to the required temperature.* I have seen a number of stupid processes before, this will definitely make it to the top 10.I have done this twice on my car, the first I used the water temperature on the dashboard. I had to repeat it and use the Lexia device to find the real oil temperature. The volume of oil was not the same it was about 130 ml more, use the dropped oil as indicator. Hot parts are bigger and hot oil volume is more which makes the oil raise higher!!!! I don't know if there an other good reason..I have written this from memory, I hope I did not miss any thing. I think there is an official couple of pages instructions, also there is a guy who left a video in Russian on YouTube (I think it was a Peugeot 407).Good luck,Simple. Quote
bangedupcitroen Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 wow thanks alot for the reply i couldn't of asked for better info, shame the power steering just failed big time and i think its now scrap :( Quote
Simple Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Before you think of scrapping, it could be the serpentine belt!!?? and if it is the pump, it should not be difficult. I owned a Ford Galaxy, a Chrysler Grand Voyager and this Citroen C8.. I have the Exclusive version and I think it is a rather good compromise (space, comfort, reliability and consumption). paul.h Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 What is wrong with the power steering ? Some cars have an electric pump which may not work if the battery is low voltage. Quote
