vinny Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 hi, can anyone help me, i have a c8 2.2 diesel 05 plate, when i drive on the motorway suddenly i loss power and the engine management light comes on, max i can drive is around 50mph, on the alerts on the dash is says engine anti pollution fault, dont know if its related. can anyone tell me more about this problem and how i can fix it, any info is appreciated, thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 You need to have the fault codes read first. Without them no one knows where to start. A couple of years ago I had a similar thing happen. I cleared the code, started the engine and the fault never returned. Never did find the cause of it. Quote
paul.h Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 The engine management light and anti pollution message just means there is a fault detected that can affect the exhaust emissions. If you are lucky it could be a glitch and will not appear again and can be ignored. If not, it can be anything and as John says, you need to read the fault code stored on the car to see what the fault is, any other way is just a guess but you could look under the bonnet to see if something obvious has happened so as a hose come off or electrical connector come loose. Such faults put the car in limp mode which limits its performance but allow it to still be driven. If you do not have a fault code reader you can pay a garage (preferably a Citroen or Citroen specialist) to do a diagnostic check or for a lot less you can buy a code reader such as this from Gendan https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html Quote
vinny Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 thanks guys, i will bring the car to have the diagnostic done, ive been told it could be the diesel fuel filter, but as im not very handy under the bonnet i didnt know where to look or check. Quote
paul.h Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 It could well be the fuel filter needs replacing, frequencies vary but can be 2 to 4 years or up to 40k miles depending on the engine. When was it last done ? Quote
vinny Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 thanks moderator, it funny u have said that cos im having the fuel filter looked at as i thought it could be that, thanks Quote
