C5&aMGF Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Hello all,As stated in my intro, picked up a 2.0 HDI Estate `03 on 52 plate for a steal. Got a brand new front nearside wing (in primer)for £15 and a o/s/r interior door handle to convert for front door for £9.99 (Thanks to this forum saying it was possible, otherwise was looking at £25 for a front one). Both these faults I knew about in advance. Today was my first real chance to give the car a quick once over and I noticed that I have a bar of some sort going from n/s to o/s hanging down on drivers side by front wheel. Having not been long out of hospital not able at the moment to investigate further. Just trying to establish what it is, Its not a box tube kinda thing more of a flat. I`ve looked on the service.citroen site (Thanks again forum, never would have known about the freebie access otherwise :) ) and as far as I can make out, it seams to be the front floorpan crossmember..... so my question is, does anyone have experience of this? Can it be welded? Or a source for replacement? Thanking all you knowledgeable peeps in advanceIan Quote
Johndouglas Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If it's a bar about an inch wide and a quarter thick, towards the rear of the engine, it may be the bar that bolts each side of the chassis rails to hold the rear of the bottom engine cover in place. If that is so, maybe the bolts haven't been sufficiently tightened and vibration has brought them out. Is the bottom engine cover still in place? Over time they get broken or lazy mechanics don't bother replacing them. Quote
C5&aMGF Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Thank you John, That sounds like the one. Pretty sure that engine cover is still there, will check, does it have a part no? Name? Repair? Or just remove? Sorry for all the questions. Quote
paul.h Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If you have not yet obtained a copy of the C5 Haynes manual, you can see a copy of it here through post 13 http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/8163-haynes-manual-for-c5/ The engine undershield may be Citroen part no. 7013N9 . Sometimes the fixings rust away but a few nuts/bolts/large washers can be used but on our 2007 the front clips/hog rings had to come from the dealer but they did not cost much. The bar might be part no. 5081G0 and if so can be found under Mechanical / Front anti roll bar Quote
C5&aMGF Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 This is the offending bar seen in the centre of picture Quote
paul.h Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 It looks like the 5081G0 part so if you look at the parts diagram you can see what fixings are missing. Quote
Johndouglas Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 This is the offending bar seen in the centre of picture Yes - that's the bar I had in mind. In the picture the undertray is missing. Also they are all different between Mk1 and Mk2. PS - If I remember rightly, each end is held with two bolts. One goes through a thin steel clip. Quote
C5&aMGF Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Thanks a lot everybody, can tell I`m gonna find this site invaluable. Quote
paul.h Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 You may have already seen on here or in the handbook, but if you need to jack the car up first raise the suspension to max height and remove the key from the ignition to avoid any possible suspension problems. Also do not go under the car without using axle stands since if a height sensor on an anti roll bar is caught the suspension can quickly drop to a very low height. Quote
C5&aMGF Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Cheers Paul, always use axle stands. Have seen what happens before if you don`t. Quote
