hello there,

this is just a general query, when wiring a tow bar on my 07 berlingo do i need to fit a smart box to the vehicle wiring, or can it be connected as the older vehicles, by breaking into the vehicle wiring

I wouldn't think a Berlingo would be any more complicated than my last two C5s. I wired the 12N requirements through a Smart 7 relay using Scotchlocs, then the 12S fridge and battery charging via two hefty cables direct from the battery to another relay in the rear of the car. On both C5s the arrangements worked very well.

If you know the make of towbar, you can go on their website and check for installation instructions since many makers put them on-line. As an example from Witter:

I would give the towbar a check over to make sure its condition is good. Any bolts and nuts are likely to be high tensile ones, possibly 8.8 or higher but you should check with a towbar supplier since ordinary bolts will not be strong enough and you may find a supplier can provide a kit of fittings.http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/towbars/faq7.php
